Anyone familiar with Nokians?
Looking at
http://www.nokiantires.com/newsite/t...opup.cfm?id=63 in 225/40ZR18 XL
or
http://www.nokiantires.com/newsite/tires_popup.cfm?id=5 in 235/40ZR18 XL
on a clean and simple 5 spoke 18x8 rim, such as these Motegi ones http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/MOT232587517.htm
Any (almost certainly Canadian) comments?

I had them. Got rid of them
My opinion. Okay in fresh snow. Ice they were horrible. people with Eagle LS tires were leaving me at the lights.
the fix? Get Dunlop Graspic DS-1 or ther next generation tire DS-2
I bought mine at Walmart P215/55R16. Steel rims from dealer for a malibu max.
Or were you looking for 18" winters? I would do it. save your rims from change overs.

Nokians for summer, those are the Z rated ultra performance ones. I still have not found a winter tire.
And am going to need one since Northern Canada gets some nasty winter roads.

Nokians seem to be known only where there is severe winter weather. They are Finnish, and are one of the few still built in Europe. Their Winter tires (or tyres as they call them) are the best I have ever driven on and that includes blizzaks, ultra ice and x-ice.
