If thats your car in the video, with your current mods on your list thats about right for crank hp. Those dyno read crank hp not whp.

I dynoed at the wheels 250 with just an exaust. Added much since then I dont know, but -20% drive train loss that would put me at 240, which is less then I was before stage 2 and Intake, plugs, etc.

With a fwd car its more like a 15% loss in hp. 15% of 300 is 45, 300hp - 45hp loss = 255whp. Giving that your divice is not 100% accurate, its pritty close.

I hear ya. I have high flow cat/down pipe that I will have installed tomorrow.

I am waiting for pulley boys to release their 2.8 that will fit the GM stage 2 hub. Once that drops IM sure I will be 275-285ish at the wheels

At that point im pretty sure the stock clutch would die lol.

The cobalt has a 17% drivetrain loss per GM

If your referring to RWD the reason is torque is lost through lonf drive shafts. we eliminate one with a FWD therefore less loss.

Given that the power appears to be underrated by an average of 20% or so, can we assume the same about drivetrain loss?

17-3.4 = 13.6 % drivetrain loss...hrm...

So basically, we have to program the upshift lights, built-in from the factory, so they can serve their purpose? I thought the owner's manual said it would come on at a particular rpm but I haven't seen the thing light up once.

The cobalt ss/sc doesn't come with a shift light, the ls/lt do, i'm not sure about the ss na?

The gauge does have a shift light. You input the RPM and thats when it turns on. I havent set it yet so its off right now.

Its the clutch man its the clutch. I know that the only way I will put down VERY good #'s is if I get something better then this piece of crap clutch that GM gave us. I have every intention of getting a CM stage 3, but i will wait until my stock clutch is gone, and also when I have 1300 that I can drop on the parts/install without hurting me for a bit. As soon as I get my header and 2.8 inch pulley IM done until the clutch drops.

17-20% for rwd is off! motor trend did a wheel dyno on a mustang gt (300 hp) and it made 276 whp do the math and that about a 9% loss (que tom with mathmatical correction. Ok its a 8.69565217% loss) 9% loss is outstanding for a rwd car! Older rwd vehicles suffer hugly with losses up to 30%!!!

RWD takes a bigger hit then a FWD car. Its called a driveshaft, and the fact that the engine sits many feet away from the engine itself.

A FWD cars engine sits on top of the drive wheels so it takes less of a loss.

THat mustang may be a factory freak, but that certainly isnt the case with all RWD cars, even new ones.

It is possible that the motor had more power than 300 crank. Similar to a certain FWD SC I know of. lol

yeah now that I think about it, it prolly was a factory freak. The part about 30% with older vehicles loosing 30% was no lie. I was at this dyno/hotrod shop. They had a motor in there that dynoed at 457 hp at the crank. They dropped it in a dodge challenger, and took it to the wheel dyno where it made a whopping 351 whp! Thats about a 30% loss!
