Shifterrr

Well my friend has a 2005 Cobalt SS/SC and what he did to his shifter was pulled off the knob and reverse lock out and acually CUT the shifter and then threw a knob on it and called it a day, I Love the way it looks its quite a bit shorter and he claims he can get quicker shifts with it cut, are there any down falls to that becasue i was thikning about doing it?
