Consumer Reports comes through again...

So I was just over at my parents house reading the June issue of Consumer Reports. They rate some more entires into their cheap sports car group. The cobalt was not evaluated here because they have already done that but they did test a Ford Focus ST?? WTf is that anyways? So, in the ranking they list, they put this Focus ST above the Cobalt SS. I swear these people are on crack, it isn't even the SVT, just some sportier version of the Focus sedan. Oh, and there was the required homage to the honda civic si too.

Just some food for thought.

The ST I believe has the same engine as the Mazda 3...the 2.3l one. It's got a little pep, but definitely not a sport compact. I hope they compared it to the 2.4l Cobalt...the 2.0 is a completely different car for a completely different audience. People interested in the Focus would naturally be put off by the ss/sc's stiffer ride, bigger wheels, sportier looks, etc...but those happen to be among the reasons I bought one.

I've always hated Consumer Reports, their "information" is so inacurate, they have no scientific basis for their ratings, it is entirely oppinion. This is true in 90%+ of the catagories of products they review, comsumer electronics are among the worst, where brands like sony, pioneer, bose and technics are rated far higher then denon, yamaha, onkyo, or harmon-kardon. When I worked in home theater sales there would be people that would come in with copies of it and I would refuse to help them knowing that most would take what it said as if it were handed down from god. Anyone who actually does any research knows that many of the brands and products they rate as the best are consistently anything but.

Sorry about the rant, that publication just pisses me off to no end.

A couple months back when my parents came down to visit me, I got stuck riding in their rental Focus with them. I nearly lost my voice trying to yell over the road noise, it was ridiculous, like riding in the original Hummer. Although it was a base sedan, I doubt any of the trim levels would differ in that category.

Anyone who rates Sony over Denon would rate Hershey above Godiva.

And to keep it on topic, why are the N.A. car review mags (and CR as well it looks like) all ignoring the fact that the Cobalt scored better ratings in defects/car than the import Toyota and Honda competitors in the J.D. Power quality survey, as rated by actual purchasers of the vehicles??

get over it. it's not the end of the world. you guys say that consumer reports get paid off but what if they finally say good things about the cobalt? what then? are they still getting paid off? i never pay attention to consumer reports and never will. just don't understand why some of you guys get so worked up over it. just give it a rest already.

I'm fairly certain it was referring to the ss sc because I don't think they have reviewed the regular ss.

As for the other comments about getting pissed about reviews in magazines, I mainly posted this because I couldn't believe they put a Ford Focus sedan above the supercharged cobalt.

Actually, I would have to say that Godiva is completely over rated. Pound for pound, Hershey is by far the better bang for the buck!

But Godiva tastes so good. Rasberry Truffle! Mmmm.... That kills anything hershey has to offer.

Its probably some dude who drives a Mustang GT who is contantly being owned by chevy cars, and this is his way of making ford look good.

Whenever I see these articles, I just think to myself how much I love my car and do not regret buying one. I would buy one all over again (unless I had money for the insurance on a GTO )
