Well this is what I came up with. How much did it cost me? nothing. (Only because I had the filter laying around.

Basically, I moved the sensor to the front of the throttle body hat, and used an adaptor I cut from a piece of tube to mount the filter on the end. I call it a semi cold air kit because if you pull the stock airbox, you will see they actually have it ducted to shoot cold air right into the area the cone filter is sitting.

looks good, does it honestly feel any different?
and if you modify the stock airbox, so the cone filter sits on it, but the airbox is still around the cone, itll keep more ait near the filter, instead of always drawing it in, itll draw it in and take air from around the airbox, and it'll help dissipate heat

Hey nice custom intake :cssNET:

I like the appearence with the stock airbox still in place - it looks very professional, almost like a Volant Cold Air Intake setup.

Have you noticed any gains in either sound or power??

how did you move the sensor or could you get a better pic of it

Its louder now for sure. Sound kicks in about 3500 rpm and up. I drove about 15 miles no problem, then on the way home got a check engine light. Not sure what thats about I moved the sensor wire, as I found it was on top of the upper radiator hose. Not sure if the heat was messing with it. So I will find out tomarrow if I still get the light going to work.

I moved the sensor to the front of the hat, you can see it a little in that pic. Its right in line with airflow so not sure why there would be a problem. I just cut a square hole in the hat like on the filter cover and bolted it on.

since its a mass air flow meter the tube where the sensor is needs to be exactly the same as the stock diameter which it is in or the readings will get messed up.

Where it is sitting is the same size as where it was. I just moved it to the other side of the rubber adapter piece.

hey rm i actually didthe samething but mines alittle different. i went to the local import store bought a nice air filter. went to the hardware store bought some 3"tubing. cut a slice a slice in the tubing to make room for the air flow sensor. your check engine light can come if not enough air is coming through, but its fine cuz after 3 whole cycles the engine light will turn off if probably installed. i will post my pics as soon as i get home. to actual tell you the truth, it does make a big difference....i can easily get rubber into second. and it sounds badass in like 3500rpms. until a better intake comes out im fine with this setup. :cssNET:

Looks good. I like yours better then mine actually. I just used what I had, but I wish I would have waited and got a shorter filter so I could have done that as well.

well actually any 3" air filter will fit. but ill check the brand tomorrow it was like $40 for it so its a top quality air filter. i would consider using rubber tubing like what i did since it wont let out any air rather than the metal rm used. becuz that metal isnt really surrounding that much to the tubing leading to the intake.

ps i love the sound of it lol

Update: Well did the battery unhook trick, and no more engine light. Ran it hard after, couldn't get it to come back on. Really runs good now, pulls a lot harder in second then it ever did. Next I am going to try another intake system, probably the one from Frank (Cavalierextremes). I think it will help even more getting rid of the rest of the stock setup.

So I shoulda unhooked the battery long time ago. Note for anyone changing the intake, unhook the battery why you do so the computer wiill learn the new intake from the start. It will save you some hassle, aggrivation, and a little gas too. :cssNET:

hopefully that will work, do you have to drive good for a while to let it learn it, because if i floor it right away it bogs down a bit and its not cool lol

Damn guys, you resurrected an old thread.

Lol yeah this is nothing new but it is a good cheap mod. I did it before I got an intake. Watch yourselves though because the filter tends to rest on the engine mount and bounces around when driving. I noticed a few holes starting to form on the filter from it bouncing on the mount.
