my_bd 08-27-2006, 11:11 PM is there a plan to meet-up on friday still in the works?
gates open at 430, racing starts at 530 and runs till 11
there have been lengthy lineups at the gates every time, lineups for tech, a hellava lot of cars have been turning out regularly...
the track has been VERY busy every friday night and they often invite (unannounced) clubs like vw's or supra's etc which really slows down the rotations.
we've been getting as few as 3 runs due to the number of cars, track spills and breaks etc.
typically we get 4-6 runs.
(I vaguely remember a time when we'd get a dozen runs in...sigh)
my personal preference is to get there early when possible, get in line before the gates open, start prepping my car in the lineup. Once inside pick a spot in the pit area, unload everything from the car and then go get in the Tech lineup.
Usually finish tech just before the Imports/Sport Compacts begin their runs.

Appeal the license suspension. I have done that twice and once I had it reduced and the other time I had the suspension cancelled.;)

Honestly, I speed.
But I needed my license to work so that I could pay child support and by the time the suspension came around I had several months with no tickets so I appealed.;)

In a 2.4L no less! ;) If that doesn't vouch for the "SS" title on the 2.4L nothing well!
Seriously, slow down a bit (or don't get busted as much)! :nono:
my_bd 09-02-2006, 12:50 PM Just wanted to say a "Big Thanks!" to Rod and his wife for hosting the bbq/mini-meet at their home yesterday, great food, I was stuffed!
and it was exciting to see that soon-to-be-nasty Silent Red SS just sitting there patiently in its lair...waiting....and waiting....for something to arrive....
we got to check out firsthand the freshly installed roll cage
and all those brand new heavy duty parts just laying about the pristine garage floor....axles, coilovers,
damn I want that clutch and flywheel!!!
very cool Rod!!
Nice meeting Jekyl and his gal, all the way from Calgary - Congrats to Jekyl on his new personal best times at the track! good job man!
Avro206 also from Calgary, nice to see a 2.4 SS at the track finally!!! car sounds great too.
and Fingersmoran - the master of bracket racing!
my buddy Nate with his Cav
cya'll again soon!
Matty 09-02-2006, 02:46 PM Good to hear it was fun. Too bad I was working otherwise I would have liked to see what kinda numbers I could have gotten.
victory_red_SS 09-02-2006, 02:50 PM It was nice meeting everyone yesterday and I finally got to see a Redline up close. I like some of the cool options you have Andrew. I look forward to doing it again.
g5mike 09-02-2006, 03:16 PM What was Avro able to get his 2.4 times down to?

well I wish I was able to squeeze a little more juice out of her last night but it wasn't in the cards for me,
I guess I've been really pushing my luck with that stock clutch over the past 2-3 months and she just wasn't gonna give me any more fun last night!! lol
tempermental beast!
and I keep rationalizing to myself that the clutch is not so bad really -
but after taking just a short spin around the pit area in Jekyl's SS with his CM FX400 - I was kinda shocked and amazed at the difference in grab, even at low speeds!
holy crap! bam! right now!!
I was definitely envious of that :-D
g5mike 09-02-2006, 07:44 PM Well guys(especially Avro) what kinda times did you all get?

I'm pretty sure I saw a couple of 16.0 runs, but I missed some of his runs cuz we were in different places at different times.
I think I overheard at one point that he was not happy with his runs,
looking for mid-high 15's I think - but he'll have to chime in here to set the record straight.
I also heard that his car was throwing a fit during the drive out here fom Calgary, don't know if he was able to straighten that out either.

Thanks, I thought he would better his numbers at mission compared to Alberta,he was runnin 15.4s before
victory_red_SS 09-03-2006, 06:16 PM Avro did have a cel come on during his trip to the coast. His best time was 16 I believe and he was really upset with his times. He won't get home till tonight so he likely won't be able to respond till then.

Could have been caused by altitude difference? Ive heard of other peaple comming from Alberta and having problems
avro206 09-03-2006, 09:39 PM okay...I am back in Calgary.
Yes it was awful---my times. Nice to meet people...too bad no one took pics of my car.
I'll set the record stright since no one knows what I ran :(
Back to my times:
Some time after going through the toll both (to Abbotsford) down to the valley my car showed a CEL.
It has never had a CEL before, so I pulled over and read the owners manual. Car seemed to be running fine. I gave it a few full throttle runs, did not notice anyting unusual.
So I pushed on to Abbotsford. I did noticed sever pinging---or predetonation in 5th gear, if I gave it half throttle or more. At low rpms this is.
Took it to the Chevy dealer--they scanned it and said it was a lean code.
They said it was running lean once a few months ago, they said--but it never did have a CEL. They cleared the code and it has not come back.
They thought it might be bad gas. I had filled up in Kelowna at Shell with 91--I use that brand 90% of the time. Bad gas--either the tanks did not have 91 in it or was contaminated with some water.
I did put 10-15L in and ocate booster, and fuel injedctor cleaner--the low rpm ping persisted.
With the Westers "Tune"---it must be run on 91 octane or better. I suspect the computer was pulling igition timing from the engine--reducing hp and killing my times.
Here are my fastest ET and fastest mph.
15.88@89.59
16.1@90.73
(rest were 15.9, 16.0, 16.4---first run opps!)
I have done a 16.0@87 mph at Calgary---5000 DA. It's obvious dropping 5000 feet would make it a hell of alot faster. Since I did 15.7@91 in Calgary one night when the DA was 3490ft.
5 years ago I drove to Mission and it rained. Now I drive there and have bad gas.
It would have done a 15.1 easily---if this was not the case and perhaps a tenth or two better.
In retrospect the car did not seem to pull at high rpms in third too much. When the altitude drops, I have always noticed my times show the biggest improvemnet after shifting into 3rd.
I have now run 2 half tanks of 94 Chevron and it still pinged--although a bitt less I think. Now it has a full tank of Mohawk 94---hopefully that will do it.
On the plus side---my car got excellent milage---not a consolation though.
Calgary to Kelowna---6.5L per 100kms (36 US MPG)
Kelowna to Calgary 6.4L per 100kms (37.? MPG)

That sucks Mike! I hope you get your car all straightened out.
victory_red_SS 09-03-2006, 11:30 PM It was nice meeting you Mike and I'll see you & Cody when I come out next year to race at both Calgary and Edmonton tracks.
Jekyl 09-04-2006, 04:11 AM Ok Guys.......
First of all...
My girlfriend and I would like to thank Rod and his Wife for inviting us to stay at their place after racing friday night at Mission!!
We had a great time staying there, great food, great company and it was good finally meeting you in person.
It was also good to meet Andrew and Sean as well. Sean has a beautiful black SS S.C. like mine with almost the same mods.... (he just needs to get driver mod stage 3 like me). Andrew, I really liked what you have done to that Ion, too bad you werent able to run as good as you have earlier in the season, Im guessing youll be starting the next seasin fresh with a new stage 4 clutch?? lol.
I was able to hit a decent time of 13.93 @ 102.8 mph. on street tires.
Most likely would have ran a better time if I had got another run in, but they had to shut down the track 30 min early due to a couger blowing his engine near the 1/8th mile marker. I was improving my time by a 10th each run as I was getting more used to the track and launching on the sticky surface. Oh well.
It was a blast....
Ill get the timeslip up later, and hopefully rod can get the video up!!
