The Dealer Sticker That Owned Me Thread
I don't know where to start. I had a goal today to clean up my sedan and get it ready before the end of the month to pull out of storage and drive it for the rest of the summer to keep miles off the SS (Keepin it pleasure for the weekend
) but for some stupid reason I can't get this stupid dealer sticker off my car! It's annoy as **** and I've chipped at it all afternoon just to get a 1/4 of it almost off.
I've tried the following:
1. Goo Gone
2. A Hair Dryer to soften the sticker
3. Boiling Hot (When I say hot like 600 degrees hot)
4. A Plastic Scraper (Seems to work the best thus far..)
5. Borrowed Heat Gun that didn't do **** even at 700F and am afraid to adjust to 900F
Any suggestions? I did my searching thru threads but this sticker just ain't ****** budging..
Someone said to use wax but I think that's silly. It still won't do anything I am sure..

STEP 6:
Drive to the dealership and make them take it off themselves.
When I worked at the dealership in recon, I always used a metal razor blade and some steel wool with glass cleaner. I am assuming that there isn't any aftermarket tint on the window, but if so, don't use that method (you're pretty much srewed as far as I know).

Oh, I was thinking the window sticker. I hate to say it, but we would also use metal razor blades to remove those ******* things. Used cars were the worst that had been baked in the sun for years. You need to go very slow, and keep it at the perfect angle that it will scrape the goo but not the clearcoat. If don't properly, you can polish out any fine scratches with wax. This was even effective on black vehicles. Just be careful, or find someone you trust that would do it for free.
My husband works at a vinly shop when he is home from offshore. He said the longer it has been on the more difficult it is going to be to remove. He also said use the heat gun, do not turn up the heat any more! Keep at it with the scraper. Start with the heat gun at the outer edge & use the plastic scrapper on the edge as soon as the heat gun has been moved away. In other words do not heat the whole area & then try scrapping. Concentrate on removing the sticker only, worry about excess glue once vinyl is gone. He also said if you could take a closed up pic so he could see it he may have some more advice. Goo gone will only remove adhesive it will not assist in removing the vinly. He also said stay away from the paint with a razor blade.
I pulled mine off today, and just pulled it off. FOr the goo, i just used my finder and a ribbed washcloth with some water on it. Of course it was like this bubbly thick vinyl one,. and not one of the flat, "scrub my paint off-to remove" types. If you do get it off, one of the best methods for the good removal would be mineral spirits. Hope that helps. Later.
Quality of pictures aren't great (Camera Phone) but you get the idea. I tried from all angles. The only thing that worked was going down the center it seemed. Then I got some of it moved but got damn what a PITA! Here is your flat as a carpenters dream sticker flush on my bumper...

Hope your laughing because I know I am
Oh.. to get owned by a dealer sticker...

My husband said it looks like reflective vinly, if it is reflective is like twice as difficult to remove. My husbands also said great pics with a camera phone. He now wants to know, when you use the heat gun does it soften it up any? Oh completely useless info, but his uncle Dan lives there.
Husband said if it is hard & brittle, a very cheap vinyl was used. It is going to be a huge pain, but use the heat gun, plastic scrapper, lots of cuss words (my .02 cents), & ton of elbow grease. He stressted again do not use a razor blade. Be careful not to over heat with the heat gun, it will burn the paint.
I have a nasty little dealer sticker on my trunk. I tried peeling it off. It was leaving tons of residue and big chunks of itself. Such a pain. I can't believe the license plate brackets is not enough of an advertisement.

This cheap vinyal sticker has what looks like a magnet color on the back of it. Does that mean it's even cheaper?
