Which octane gas for the supercharger?

Sometime ago I was considering a Saturn Ion Redline but didnt due to a couple reasons one being I didnt really want to be tied to 91 octane gas that everyone said you needed for the supercharger to function at maximum. There was usually a lot of debate on whether you needed the premium gas or could get away with cheaper 89 octane gas. All this was happening on their (saturn) board.
SO........my question or observation is, I havent really seen any discussion here about what gas you guys are putting in the supercharger. Well.....what are you using???
Premium 91, 89 or 89 ethanol blend?

93... 91 or higher is recomended. I'd imagine if you went lower you'd get knock and pull timing.

not entirely the car will run but will reduce power accordingly....gm had to make it run on 87-89 incase that was the only gas available....

Now you might run into problems with an after market tune on low octane gas, but that depends on what they have changed.

its only maybe 10 cent more a gal. if you put 10 gal. in you only spend $1 more... a dollar here or there isnt going to break anyone. plus the car runs better. i you want to try it out for yourself you can. fill up with the cheap stuff and see how it runs and then reply back and let us know what you found.

If you've got the money to buy the car then the 10 cents shouldn't be a problem... you could always go with the ss 2.4l if you don't want to pay the 10 cents extra per gallon.

The 2.4L should be run with 91+ Octane too... but yeah... you're getting 25+ MPG... don't fret over a few cents a gallon.

The PCM is tuned to run on 91+.... Thats why. If you run it on a lower octane your MPG will suffer as well.... so run 91+

91 octane all the way lol (not to many places here dish out 93 octane, and my gas card gets me 20 cents off a litre at petro-canadas lol)

The 2.4 has higher compresion and requires 91 or higher. The SS S/C manual states that 87 can be used, but for maximum performance use 91 or higher. I ran a couple tanks on 87 and it felt slightly slower, but not real noticable. I didn't hear any knock, but I never had it checked. I only run 91 now because of the 105+ temps here during the summer.

Check your owners manual

While 91 octane is "recommended" it WILL run OK on 87 octane (preferably from a Top Tier supplier)
Yes, performance and mpg MAY suffer somewhat as depending on how hard you push it the PCM MAY drop you down to the low octane timing table (but only if the knock sensor detects detonation repeatedly)
But if you drive it EASY (no racing , sustained high boost levels or anything like that) you probably wont even notice the difference.
Only with the Stage 2 kit is 91 octane considered MINIMUM

91 is the best you can buy in Alberta, but I got a full case of 105+ octane booster for if I end up having to fill up at a station that only offers 87.

Not totally true
Huskey/Mohawk offers both a 92 AND a 94 octane in select stations.
Just be forwarned that it's an ethonol blended fuel that results in mixtures about 2-4% leaner than indicated on a WB so if you're using stock injectors with a pulley or tuned to the "ragged edge" you might get detonation
I've used it with my SS/SC and it really responds

I was in New Mexico last month and the best gas they had was 89 octane. Car ran fine, didn't ping and got the same fuel economy. Of course it's also about 3,000 feet above sea level (requires less octane) and I didn't beat the **** out of it. If you drive like normal, keeping it under 4-5 pounds of boost then you really don't need the additional octane.

Wow, I never knew that...
I usually run on 89 octane since gas prices are crazy now... Thing that I'm questioning, is there THAT much of a difference between 89 and 91? I usually put 89 when gas is too expensive and 91 when prices falls abit, and personally I haven't noticed much of a difference... or maybe it's because I don't push the car like some of you do hehe But from the people that do push the SS-SC, like I asked, is there that much of a difference?

I was in Colorado and all the stations had 85. It seemed really wrong to be using 85, but the car ran OK -and hey, it was a rental anyway LOL.

I don't get it. Why not just spend the extra two dollars a fill up and get 93? You spent 20k+ on a car and now 2 dollars is going to break you?

I'm not sure I've even seen 93 around where I live...
