View Full Version : Hitting redline ...
firesting 07-13-2006, 09:46 AM Well this might not be a problem, or it might be, I'm not sure lol....
I was, kind of, racing an old Mustang GT and I was so caught up in the race and traffic around me that I pushed my car and it hit the redline, bogged down a bit and then I noticed and pushed clutch and let go of the gas. It was fine after that, not even any smell or anything. I was wondering if I killed anything or screwed up something with my clutch or engine? I do know that if you would continue pressing the gas on the red it would over heat and blow up lol. But as soon as I felt it bog, I let go of everything... :(
cavy-to-SS 07-13-2006, 09:51 AM no your good...i believe when you hit redline the fuel cuts off so you dont mess anything up...iv hit it a few times your good just try to shift before it next time....and did you win
SilverBalt 07-13-2006, 10:01 AM yeah man, ur fine.. i hit it racing all the time i get so caught up i like forget to shift lol... thats why i bought a shift light... but cavy-to-ss is right.. i believe it does just shut fuel off.. b\c it does the same thing when it shuts fuel off when u top the car out.. (that scared the shit out of me when it huit govoner lol)
RaineMan 07-13-2006, 10:08 AM It's just you bouncing off the rev limiter.... it's a safety feature. Cuts fuel when you get the revs too high. Happens with these cars all the time...
plyboy-illest 07-13-2006, 10:10 AM yea nothing to worry about the rev limiter saved you....
but to more important stuff did u win the race
firesting 07-13-2006, 10:13 AM Oh ok good, I was a little worried that I fked up the engine or transmission (clutch)... I guess the fuel does cut off, which is why for that split second it bogged down and slowed down even if my foot was on the ground. As for winning, we started the "race", lol, at about 50km/h and i was owning him by 1 car length until i redlines and there was a truck in front of me! lol So i clutched, he passed and I went behind him. Then we stopped at a light and he was in back of me, I reved to check my engine was alright, and then he reved lol!! I was like, oh this guy really wants a beating haha!! So after we turned left, I punched it in second and hit the gas and he hit it but his tires spun and he burned out haha, at that point I was like 5 cars in front... He thought he was all it until he saw me!!!! hahaha :twothumbs
BTW, thanks for the help :)

senior_brown 07-13-2006, 02:22 PM niiiice, i forgot to shift trying to race a older skyline, i hit rev limit when i was afew lengths ahead, then he took off to the highway ramp
06blackSC 07-13-2006, 07:35 PM I had the same issue the other night except my car with only 900 miles on it completely shut down and i had to pull off the road. It took ten minutes to get my car running again and i had an engine light on immediatly after that. the next morning the light was gone and it was running normally but i brought it to chevy and they pulled the cam position sensor code out of the tech 2. Whats up with that? they cleared the code and told me if it happens again they'll really investigate things.
Edit: this was the first real time i got on the car heavy since i picked it up with 37 miles on it. hitting redline was just me not being use to the car, not like i'm a terrible driver or anything...;)
rhanes216213 07-13-2006, 07:53 PM I've done that once in first gear.
