Car Show at Pep Boys!?

Dave sent me a text message today:

"Car show at PepBoys this weekend... no joke... we started something... make a post about it..."

I'm unsure of any details... but this sounds interesting.

Does this mean someone else is hosting a show there....?

He didn't say anything to me about it, but he said he'd call me when he was on break, I'll ask him.

No, logistically it doesn't sound like it would work, but I'm all for a legit car show like in Irwin. That'd definitely solve my dilemma.

ok...finally done with work.

As for details i'm still not sure either. My brother called me and said we inspired his boss by always sitting out there in groups of 10 or more....lol
So....it is pretty much up to us to organize. Basically just gauging interest at the moment. I'm going to go out to Pep Boys and talk to him tommorow and see what exactly he is thinking. I told him I could probably gaurantee 8-10 Cobalts alone....lol, so i'll let everyone know more tommorow.

Not to be the devil's advocate, but if it looks like this is going to happen, you might want to find out about insurance and liability and that kind of stuff too. I just don't want something to happen and then Pep Boys can say "Well we're not responsible because this event is not organized by us."

Nah. Mine won't be fixed till the following weekend, so if yours is dirty it will be in good company.

Yes... you DO need to clean it.

Car cruises, car shows etc... should not have dirty cars in them.... That's my POV.

Sounds too small to me. If none of us show at the Irwin Cruise, I think people may actually start to worry not seeing us.

Well, no one showed this past weekend, and I didn't hear anyone complaining we weren't there.

Dan, yes.. it WAS past my bed time. LONG STORY..

I guess it depends on when they want to have this car show. If they are wanting a Saturday night, it might be ok, since there won't be a huge turnout and they'll fit in the lot ok. I would think they'd be better off doing it on a Sunday evening right around "closing time", but that's me.

questions:
1) are they going to be open when the show is going on??
1a) If not, then who's going to represent THEM at the show? This way, if we need power, bathrooms, etc... we have someone there.

2) As stated above... when? That is the big issue.

3) Insurance ( again as stated by Alicia ). Last thing we want is some Civic or someone else starting trouble or someone's car getting tagged in the lot.

4) Food, drink, music, etc?

5) Promotion... are we going to be responsible for promoting the show? Is this OUR show, sponsored by PB ? Or is this their baby, and we're the charter "club" to help get people there?

So many other little logistical questions, but I can't think of everything.

Will we have to register people rather than just let people show up and park in the lot? I'm thinking if that's how it's done, then you can collect money for insurance purposes and have names on record. In addition to that, you can probably close off the lot from outside vehicular traffic. That helps prevent damage to cars.... and spectators. I don't know how cool that place beside Pep Boys is with parking, but there's a decent amount of parking availabe there and at NTB.

Brian raised a key point... will PB be open when this is going on? I'm assuming they'll want to be open at the time of the show (afterall, what good is a promotion if you can't sell to the potential customers that you've attracted).

Does anyone know the first thing about insurance for an event like this?

As long as its during operating hours their general liability and umbrella policies should cover it. Damn you Dano..I sound like an attorney.

Hmmm...

I guess that is a really good point as well. If we had a real "registration" type setup, then we would know exactly who is there.

There is alot of logistics that go into setting up something like this.

1 thing to do if we DO get this off the ground is register the show on that www.carcruises.com site..... they have alot of stuff there, and it's good promo as well.

Could make flyers and pass them out @ the Irwin Cruise as well.

Have to talk to them and see what the parking #'s are there.

I think that's more of a walkthrough kind of thing. There are so many spaces in the lot... but there's room for cars where there aren't actual parking spaces (ie. on the side, along the back wall, etc.). That's why I said it might be easier to block off Pep Boys' actual lot. Then you can arrange the cars and not worry about normal traffic.

Getting cars for the show wouldn't be hard... we could get a good amount of Cobalts/Ions there by ourselves. Someone post on an SRT4 forum and challenge them to show up with their neons... lol. And I'm sure either Brian or myself could let STi Justin know... I'm sure he has friends with decent cars that would wanna show them off.

you all are reading so much into this... if you think about it... to actually have a car cruise you have to have a permit... they have a permit at the irwin car cruise. do you have to register to sit up there... no... the place being open or not... it would be silly to have a car cruise after dark... you cant see. relax... dave will just fill everyone in about all of it... you are all giving this way too much thought. im curious as well but no sense in getting all hyped up about it till you know whats going on.

You are supposed to register to sit up there. That's why they have the "required" insurance donation to get the flyer to place on your dash.

Also, Pep Boys closes earlier on Sunday I believe. You can have a car cruise in the evening on Sunday when they would normally be closed... it's a matter of whether they stay open later or not. I think that's what we were all referring to.

I think we're all just excited to see a car cruise based around us. Dave asked for questions... so we're just giving him some.
