Front License Plate Bracket

I was curious how the front license plate bracket is mounted? Does it put holes in the bumper or does it mount underneth it. If anyone has pics and some info on this please post.

Holes in the bumper. YUCK! But, I didn't install mine. I'll wait for the big fat ticket!

Holes... I never got a ticket for not having it on any of my cars but I have been pulled over and given a hard time so on the SS when I get it... the plate stays on this way the cops have no reason to pull me over whatsoever

Does it come pre installed from the factory or do you have to install it. If it comes without it installed then i will leave it off. PS i also ordered it with the car if that makes any difference.

Before I even took delivery of my SS/SC I told my salesmen...do not drill the holes for the front bumper plate on my car...I dont want those 3 holes showing after I take off the front plate as soon as i get home...so they didnt put it on...not a problem in my state of PA.

if the state says you need a front plate, the dealer is required to put it on

Your dealer will install it, if its required in your area. I know that's what happened with mine, anyway. Here are some pics of my car when it was at the dealership, you can see some without and with the bracket. You can also see all the screws where it mounts (there's 3 screws).

Damn, I wish this front license deal was just standard everywhere, then designers might think of better was to mount them so they don't look like goatees on the car's chin.

The f'ing bracket is installed using rivets of all things! To remove it, you have to drill out the rivets. There will be holes, but they could be easily plugged with any one of a number of automotive fasteners available at Lowe's. I've been on the fence about taking mine off now for 3 months, but like someone else said, you do risk trouble with the cops, at least in Ohio.

The dealer here told me that if i wanted to put it on my self then he would leave the bracket in the trunk. I think that i am going to try to make a bracket that will go through the opening and mount to the impact bar under the bumper cover, then mount the bracket to the bracket i made.

I believe the dealer installs it...the bracket is in my trunk anyway lol. The guy I dealt with at the dealership said in Wisconsin they are not required but I have heard through many people that it is. So when and if I get a ticket the dealer is going to get a visit lol....

I live in Florida where no plate is required in front. I bought my car off the lot in Texas about a month ago and they had already put the bracket on. I had to drill out the nuts since they're rivited in. I got some plastic plugs from the hardware store, painted them and shoved them in the holes. Freakin dealership screwed up a perfectly good bumper but ok for now. I will eventually put a SS front on. Here's a pic.

if your DMV gives you two license plates whan you regester your car then by law you must display them accordingley, as mandated by your state law. so check your state drivers manuel for ferther information on where and how to display them, because you don't want to give mister officer any reason to pull you over.

Yeah here in Ohio, Troopers and CPD Freeway Patrol are dicks about front license plates not being displayed. Even cars like Evos and SRT-4s that have FMICs have to have them displayed which is stupid IMO.

I just told them not to put mine on the car. So they didnt. I was never hassled with my Trans Am about no front plate even after being pulled over a couple of times in it.

No front plate is required in Michigan. When I got my Cavy, it was from Ohio, so I had a blank front mount for about a month before I took it off. My Cobalt however (built today ) shouldn't have one at all
