View Full Version : Progress rear anti-sway bar...
saturnd00d 05-26-2005, 10:21 AM just wanted everyone to know that I had my progress rear anti-sway bar installed. Keeps the backend in check now. Really feels great.
Since the cobalt and ION share the suspension setup, maybe it would be worth it to look into. This is simply a bar that bolts underneath and runs inline with the torsion beam. Someone who's interested should go check out the underpinnings of the ION and cobalt. Maybe they are swappable.
I have pics of the install. They are unfortunately on my neighbours digicam. Whenever I get them, I'll post the pics for reference.
DWK5150 05-30-2006, 09:28 AM I haave had mine on my car a about a week now and I think its well worth every penny. Definetly helped to tighten the car up more. Instillation is simple as only 4 bolts and uses existing holes already under the car.
alleycat58 05-30-2006, 09:33 AM I wish someone would come out with an adjustable one already :(

Might be waiting a while Im thinking but who knows I could be wrong. I was tired of waiting for one so I figured I would give the progress bar a try.
player_1 05-30-2006, 10:36 AM you really notice that much of a difference?
how does it feel differently
06black 05-30-2006, 10:45 AM pics?????
BlackLS 05-30-2006, 11:04 AM Does the bar noticably reduce body roll because I ploan on getting one soon.
Is your car lowered because if it is you should have a very good handling car.
05YELLOWSS 05-30-2006, 11:35 AM Well, now you guys got me interested, where do I get it? Guess I'll buy that too...
DWK5150 05-30-2006, 12:23 PM The bar definetly helps to balance the car out a lot. Has a much flatter feel to it and you dont feel the drift anymore in the car. I dont have any pics of mine at all. I got mine from Dezod. Installation is easy as the holes are already there so no drilling to do and it comes with all the hardware you need and instructions which are like 3 steps if I remember correctly.

Dezod 05-30-2006, 05:43 PM Yes we have quite a few of these on the shelf ready to roll. The bar has been a great success with this car and the Ion Redline. :)
SoloSK71 05-30-2006, 10:37 PM The picture on your site shows 2 bars?

It's a generic pic of both front & rear.
shiftingloco310 05-31-2006, 08:49 PM isnt this rear sway bar the same thing as the torque foward rear brace?
Badmunky 05-31-2006, 08:54 PM I think it is.
If so it should not help roll at all. It should help keep the tires on the ground by stoping rear suspension flex tough. And that will give you beter handaling.
Later
Dezod 06-01-2006, 12:43 AM No this is not the same as the TQFWD brace. This is full solid 22mm bar and WILL Help reduce some roll and provide more rear end rigidity for supreme handling. Progress has awesome products.
shiftingloco310 06-01-2006, 01:10 AM well someone said above that it runs along the torsion beam, which the torque foward brace does to. MAybe if i see pics i can tell the difference.
redlineblueline 06-01-2006, 01:25 AM Yes pics please.
redlineblueline 06-01-2006, 02:30 AM The pics are important because I have both on order and don't want to end up with 2 of the "same" parts.

The progress bar is a actual sway bar. The trqfwd bar looks to me honestly just like a brace. Ill see if I can get a camera and take a pic of it on my car.

That is the same impression I got as well. Someone who purchased the Progress bar from us, please post a pic.

That would help immensly.
BTW, guys...........THANKS for all of the support. We are cleaned out and have cleaned Progress out of these bars. So we are looking at 2 weeks before we can ship any more. Please continue to submit the back orders to ensure you get yours in a timely fashion. All back orders get processed 1st.

For what I want it for, I'll wait for the adjustable setup. If I just wanted it for crisper everyday handling, I'd probably bite the bullet and get the progress bar, but for what I want to do with my car I definitely want some adjustability.

Adjustable bars are a bit over rated IMHO. If the bar is well engineered and maintains a fine line of balance for a DD, then most handling issues can be solved through the spring, shock, valving, dampening, camber and drop.

I've just always liked to have as much adjustability in my car as possible. Allows me to keep a comfortable "daily driver" setting, as well as allows me to fine tune and adjust to different road courses and auto-x. I like everything as stiff as possible for auto-x, but for road courses there are some places where you want the suspension tighter than others. That's why I'm saving up for GOOD coilovers (read: tein or ohlins) with the maximum amount of adjustability.
I don't have too many handling "issues" it's just a matter of grabbing seconds here and there on the track with some fine tuning, hence why I like to have control over as many suspension parts as possible.

I hear ya. Sounds like you need some dampening and rebound control too. I would stay away from Tein. WAAAY over-rated. Much better coilovers out there.

I really really like Ohlins. I don't MIND Konis but they're rather basic for what I want. For auto-x they'd be fine, I know a lot of people who run them for auto-x and some people who run them on the track too. I could live with Konis, but I've heard nothing but great things about Ohlins.
At least I'm patient, as suspension parts seem to be even slower than performance parts for this car. I'd entertained the idea of getting the progress sway bar, but I just can't justify buying something twice since adjustable is what I really want.
06noscobaltss 06-02-2006, 01:14 AM Got the Sway bar on and all I can say is... "WOW!" This thing is kick ass! Not gunna lie a great investment!!! I love it! Took maybe 15 mins to install it myself! I LOVE IT!!! GREAT JOB WITH IT!
wikkymaster 06-02-2006, 01:19 AM this will work on all models right?
Dezod 06-02-2006, 10:12 AM Yes.

I may be mistaken but dont both of these products mount in the same area? If so is there room for both? I was under the impression from alleycat that you could only have one or the other

Nah, I said I didn't know if you could have both. I don't know where the sway bar mounts for sure or if the support bar would be in the way.

ok sorry for the mistake. does anyone know if you can have both?
redlineblueline 06-05-2006, 08:48 PM I just got the progress bar today and from the looks of the instructions it looks like we can have both. It appears that the T/F brace would attach underneath the progress one or they might bolt into different holes. If I had my Coey with my instead of in the shop then I could tell you better.
Dezod 06-12-2006, 09:46 PM These bars are back in stock!!!!!!
DARK AGE 53 06-22-2006, 03:34 PM You guys who have the sway bar know better then me but I just don't get how it makes that big of a difference  , the rear axle ( or what ever it's called today ) is a welded unit. How does installing a bar that runs along the back of the axle keep the car from swaying  , please inform me so I can better understand the thinking here. Thanks
redlineblueline 06-22-2006, 04:32 PM Good news you can install both bars but BE CAREFUL WHEN TIGHTENING THE PROGRESS BOLTS YOU CAN CROSS THREAD AND SNAP THE WELD HOLDING THE NUT ON I did it last night and had to go buy a bolt cutter today and I'm gonna try it out and see how they fit then I can make my progress how-to.

It helps reduce body roll by keeping the rear axle more rigid like a solid piece, as apposed to an independent suspension. This helps keep more tire contact patch to the pavement when cornering and in effect gives better handling. :twothumbs
Mercury 06-30-2006, 11:48 AM Looks like I'll be grabbing one of these as well!
97 Z Me Go 07-09-2006, 02:52 PM Just a fyi. There 160 shipped on ebay. "cobalt sway bar" 1 comes up.

Thanks! :cssNET:
BTW, nice dyno. Strong TQ curve and nice continuously climbing HP curve to match.

Totally agree....why take a chance on some ebay dealer u don't know for a lousy $10 bucks...
...not important but I test drove an ss s/c today, the suspension was alot more spongey and loose then I thought it would be...the engine and the shifter were top notch i thought....
the rear sway bar would definitely help (i upgraded both bars on my cavalier) but I think the struts and springs are just too soft altogether....if you install the rear sway without lowering with stronger struts you prolly won't notice that much better handling...in my opinion anyways...
vandy0419 08-03-2006, 12:22 AM The Dezod price is pretty damn good!!! Gravana sells it for $195!!!
Brandon97Z 08-03-2006, 07:00 AM Might have to pick one of these up and finish my suspension set up.
