Cobalt convertible

I know it is a dumb question but, do you think there might ever be a Cobalt convertible and would you like to see one?

if they had an 07 Black or Sunburst Orange SS/SC Convertible with G85, XM, 6-Disc CD Changer and Recaro Seating... I'd be all over that **** like a fat chick on cake.

Hmmm I don't know. I'm sure a convertable might be a draw to some, but I'd never consider one. I bought mine for auto-x/track days and it takes wayyyyy too much money to make it track-legal around here. Not to mention alllllll the weight that a convertible adds.

Doubt it would add say an extra 100lbs. The G6 GT and GTP's only weigh in like 100-200 more. They are hard top retractables. That would be sweet but I can see the pricing being almost $28-30 at that point for a loaded one.

Very true...I wanted to get one of the G6 GTP Verts....but they were over 30 grand which is totally ridiculous if you ask me...but they are cool little cars.

You also lose a lot of structural rigidity when you chop the top, especially on cars that weren't designed to be convertibles in the first place. Expect at least another 100 lb of reinforcements to the body, on top of the 100 or so from the convertible hardware. Although, if they pulled it off cleanly, the coupe has a nice profile which I fit a soft top nicely.

But it's never gonna happen.

it would probably be the cheapest conv you could buy, which might make them lots of cash. id trade up for one. conv's are normally 2500-3000 more than coupes so take the 13k~ or so and add that on you could get a decently optioned convertible for well under 20. i agree on coupe only tho, sedan conv would just be paint-peelin ugly.

This has been a thred bofore on here, but quite a while ago.

And absolutely NO, I never want to see a Cobalt convertible. It would just remind me of the Cavalier too much (quality not so great, no offense to Cavy owners). The Cobalt is an entry level car, and even though GM quality is getting better, an entry level convertible would not fare well in that department unless GM improves quality quite a bit more.

Personally, I think GM would make quite a bit of money if they introduced a Cobalt convertible. Give it the same engine as the gxp and nissan dealers may have some serious trouble selling there 40k convertible 350z's.

uhh, the doors have pillars. there is no way you could possibly make a convertible out of this car unless you redesigned the whole frame to handle cornering loads that are lost by the door pillars being chopped off.

The old cavy's doors had pillars and they will made a convertable. But i doubt GM will waist its money on r&d for a Coblat vert. They have more important things to worry about.

didnt read through the entire thread but doesnt anyone remember how shitty the cavalier convertable was... they would have to make it a hard top convertable for me to even take a second look and they would have to be out for a while working well with no big problems.

Indeed. Perhaps the low profile one would work, but probably look best with none at all.
