I've heard and posted in another thread before you go balls out on the car its 500 miles, thats the magic number I've heard all my life, but it depends on what you're talking about. SantaClaraSS/SC 07-31-2006, 11:59 PM 500 for non sc cars is always safe. A friend told me 1,000 is rule of thumb for sc engines b-4 starting to really push them. When you're breaking it in, don't forget to vary the RPM. When I was breaking mine in, and doing the daily driving thing, I'd go between 2500 and 4,000 RPM to really let the rings seat. But try not to let the RPM jump over that if you can help it too much. Hope my 0.02 helps:cssNET: bigworm 08-01-2006, 08:20 AM your going to hear a million different answers for when to start really getting on it, the only real answer is take it easy, turn your radio down, and listen now that mine is broken in at 4.5k+, i see about 1-2 extra mpg oh and santaclarass/sc: if you see a unwashed debadged black 2.4 speeding in front of you honk =] BLKSS 08-01-2006, 08:23 AM Beat her like she was your girlfriend. plyboy-illest 08-01-2006, 08:27 AM i heard take it easy for the first 1000 km dont red line it or push it over 5k after ther first 1000 its fine to open her up redSS2.4L 08-01-2006, 08:48 AM I have heard that nowdays, you don't really need to break them in at all. I've heard people say that those were only the older cars that needed break-in, but don't take my word on that. SantaClaraSS/SC 08-04-2006, 01:47 PM your going to hear a million different answers for when to start really getting on it, the only real answer is take it easy, turn your radio down, and listen now that mine is broken in at 4.5k+, i see about 1-2 extra mpg oh and santaclarass/sc: if you see a unwashed debadged black 2.4 speeding in front of you honk =] Don't count on being in front of me:lol: , but I'll honk as I fly past!!!:cssNET: senior_brown 08-04-2006, 10:54 PM i drove it til my first oil change (5000km) before i started getting on it 97 Z Me Go 08-05-2006, 03:32 AM I call it the BEAT in not break in. Car had stage 2 on it with 2 miles on it and was beat on. Seat the rings good the first time and it will run strong as hell. Take it for what its worth. If you bought the car to keep as a garage queen and keep in under 2500rpm well this isnt the car for you then. Go get yourself a Ls:lol: Just my .02 zomghax 08-05-2006, 08:04 AM Beat her like she was your girlfriend. :twothumbs blown06 08-05-2006, 08:13 AM I have been told that with the newer motors come pre broke in dont know if that is true or not i waited till 500miles before i got on it. bluntgasm 08-05-2006, 08:49 AM i waited till about 1000 until i went balls out. and even now i try to do it sparingly. |
