wow....ok i know this is an over posted thread but from searching for an hour i gave up on finding a good answer..

So here goes, What are the best (all opinions welcome) 1-2 step colder plugs and the appropriate gaps. Please get me an answer finally im losing my mind from all the reading! Note: i will be running n2o sometime very soon

x4 i have asked dealerships and the only thing they have to say is for the 2.0 kinda dumb if you ask me.

i am going to the dyno on the 23rd and the owner is letting me change plugs between runs so first run will be stock then 1 step colder then 1 step hotter just too see the gains and what would be best!

 

cool let us know man....i know im gonna need to go colder for n2o but just want to know if 1 step is the way to go w/ a smaller shot like 50 or if 2 steps is what i need but i want it to run well when not spraying so 2 step may be too much

 

What you need to find is NGK Iridiums, if your supplier has a reference book you will find a colder plug for the 2.2l in there, not sure of the number off hand, NGK is the only one who makes one. Beside the OEM plugs that are in our cars already are made by NGK. They make great stuff.

 

you don't need iridiums at all, most people run copper plugs actually just fine

one step colder = BKR6E-11
two step colder = BKR7E-11

I run two step with mine, and would suggest it if you plan go to 50-75 shot. if you plan go to 50-35 you can go one step, but I would go two just for safety. if they foul out fast then drop back a heat range.

you're going to want to gap them .040 or .035 and you'll be set. I had blowout issues up top until I closed the gap to .035 and it's been great since then.

both are fine for daily driving off the bottle too.

 

50-75 shot and daily driving is going to be my setup.

I have two bottles and for a while tried to keep at least one full on hand at all times but it was expensive. I ran the 50 shot for a few months to get accustomed with everything and what not, then bumped up to 75 and love it, feels totally different. I think I ran the 35 shot for like 15 minutes lol

In short, yeah.

I don't make it a point to try and abuse the engine, but I do push it somewhat regularly. I've got a pretty safe setup as well so it would take effort for some user error to damage it, or simple ignorance.

She loves the nitrous more than she should with the headwork I had done too. Once I get my cutout valve in I'm planning to do some dyno pulls.

 

those are the wrong plugs for a 2.2 they are way to short

 

He has an Ecotec 2.2, I think he should know...

 

I'm telling you they are iridiums, the only plug you can get that will fit properly

 

yes, they are shorter, but that does not mean they do not work. these are also used by a lot of LSJ guys wanting to run colder plugs.

again, you do not need iridium, and I had been informed prior that the stock plugs are platinum, hence the 100k change interval.

if you really want to get technical, the stock Neon SRT-4 plugs will fit and are one step colder, but the majority of you guys are asking for 2 steps anyway.

I usually get mine from www.sparkplugs.com in decent numbers, get in the habit of having one full spare set on hand at least

Your stock plugs are fine. AC Delcos do the job just fine.

 

I wouldn't run stock plugs with anything above a 35 shot, if that.

if you guys want to try go right ahead. I trust Adam's input a lot, but this is my personal preference.

autolite makes a step colder for the 2.2

the ac delco shorter plugs one step colder i guess will work if you want to take the chance of a smaller plug.


if anyone wants the number for the autolites one step colder please let me know!
