Thumbs up LFP Heat Exchanger Review on my RL

First off, I would like to say the installation went rather smooth. I think having access to a lift or jack stands would make the installation extremely simple. I on the other hand only had access to my apartment parking lot and the jack that is located in the trunk.

Due to the angle of the exit of the stock HE, it made it difficult running the hose to the inlet of the LFP HE without the hose pinching and I didn't want to restrict any of the flow. I ended up removing the flow of the stock HE and using the LFP HE as the primary and only HE.

Now to the actual review...

Cosmetic...it just flat out looks bad ass! It gives a very clean, agressive look to the front of the car, which intensifies the shape of the front bumper.

At start up I let the car run for ten minutes while ensuring that all the air bubbles had cleared up and there was a proper amount of coolant in the system. I used a total of 32oz with a 50/50 mix of dex-cool and water. After the car running and just sitting in the heat for a while, I finally got in and noticed that the IAT2 was 4 degrees cooler than IAT1!

I figured I'd take it out on the road and see what it really does under high boost and high humidity at 68%, temperature of 90 degrees and heat index of 97 degrees. I accelerated hard out of the parking lot and the IAT2 was only 10 degrees above IAT1. After severall times of going WOT in 2nd and 3rd I noticed the temps hardly rose up.

In conclusion, I noticed a 30 degree drop from earlier in the day of exact same conditions. You can definitely feel a large difference and the s/c even screams a little more. I highly suggest this product! On top of the gains you will notice from this alone, you can add timing through HP Tuners.

Do you feel like you have more power because of less HP robbing heat ? I would think this mod is more for people with very small pullies and what not. Lemme know I know some things here and there but the heat exchanger and it's benefits are not one of them.

LFP will hopefully have the version for the Cobalt here shortly. The company selling them is lightningforceperformance.com. They are in the process of being set up as a supporting vendor right now.

As for the final price I am not sure what they will run. I had to fabricate the brackets for the RL so its all a matter of how they adjust the prices and everything. I'm 99% sure that everything will be included in the kits for install and they should be a complete bolt on, no fabrication required.

I got mine on for under $100. Granted it's the smaller factory Cobra unit made by Garrett, but much more effective than just the stock unit. All we need to really do is get the heatsoak off the factory HE. Anything you put on there to help it will make a drastic increase.

Yeah, but a bolt up kit with instructions would be nice for those of us who don't have the patience to fabricate brackets and line stuff up. I personally would like to have the luxury of not having to line anything up, I"ll pay for that.

On top of all that you mentioned, these cobra HE's from LFP are twice the cooling capacity as a stock HE AND it also has 18 fins per inch (even better cooling)

I guess you could spray the radiator but that cools the engine. The radiator coolant and intercooler coolant are on their own flows. So if you want to drops temps by spraying anything then you want to spray the heat exhanger.

DEI is a company that sells kits that spray CO2 on the heat exhanger which drastically drops temps.

still not sure where the heat exchanger is... If I knew I might just make some sprayers and power it off the washer pump.

Problem is it's sandwiched between the radiator and a/c condenser. So anything you spray on it has a slim chance of actually hitting the stok heat exchanger.

Very nice. I can't wait for the extended report. More coolant is gonna help keep you from heat soaking as soon, so I want to see how it will after a longer session of hard acceleration.

I keep getting jacked around. The first shop screwed me out of $100 and I still never got the exhaust on.

So my friend that was supposed to install my clutch was supposed to do my exhaust since I sold the clutch before getting it installed and I had already paid him. Well he has a prepaid phone and is out of minutes and no home phone so I couldn't get a hold of him Saturday and he never called. I'm about to just go pay a muffler shop another $75 to put it on for me, which I don't have much money to spend and I'd rather get this guy to do it since he has already been paid! I'm going to call him work today and start bitching and maybe he'll have me just come over tonight when he gets off work.
