Any rumors on chevy going to a turbo Colbalt?

Hey guys just checking out this website, seems like the place to be for modding out the Cobalt. My question is are there any rumors of chevy going to the solstice engine(turbo 260hpo version) of the ecotech?
Thanks
Mike

I wonder how hard it would be to do a head swap and get the VVT on our cars? I plan on going turbo when the option becomes available. The power may be instant, but I think I could get more out of the engine without the parasitic drain of the SC.

I doubt it will go turbo. It would involve development of a completely different exhaust/turbo manifold and other changes as a result of us being FWD.

im unsure if GM will go turbo, they might just to make it compete with the Caliber SRT4 and the MazdaSpeed3. But it also seems like its gonna cost them alot to do all that, only to have the supercharged engine for 3 years seems like a waste, even more so with the stage upgrade kits. Not saying it wont happen, but lets not forget all the great things GM likes to think up and then ignore, Technic Cavalier for instance.

i think i should have phrased that better, i just don't really see the point of putting a turbo on a car like the HHR ?? it just doesn't seem to fit in my mind

kind of like putting a turbo on like an equinox ??

I honestly think it would be a cool concept, i'm sure they are trying to get in the same market as the caliber with the turbo HHR.

I suppose you don't like the PT Turbo either?

Turbo, supercharger or NA---it does not matter. Adding more power to any car is always good. Esp since the HHR is adeqaute at best right now

I'd say if you really want a VVT engine either buy a new SS or try and fined a junkyard car and strip it, not very likely as new as they are. Could just put the GM CNC head with a turbo and some cams.

What about the SAAB 2.0 T? We've got the same motor already, it's a FWD car, I don't think they'd have to develop anything. Just do the old swap there it is trick.

I like my 2.0 block, I just want the VVT head. I'm wondering if the stock PCM could be programmed to handle the VVT or if I would have to get different PCM to handle the timing.

Edit

I want the head off the new Saturn, what I'm trying to get at is will that head work with my PCM. I would like to to do a swap there it is.

GM already has a running prototype with the 2.0 DI turbo eco , that has been photographed . Its a HHR , the Cobalt would get identical parts Its easy to assume why they wouldnt do it , but yeah ....they already have

Gm will be putting the turbo cobalts on the market as a 2008 model. I saw the prototypes a year ago. I just wasn't sure if they were going go through with the FWD platform, but they are. Should be much quicker but I would still rather have the RWD.

isnt the HHR on the delta platform? same as our car? cause that would make it seem more likely that the cobalt might become turbo. i think we could really benifit from direct injection and vvt if properly designed for our vehicle. i dont think just swapping the head would benifit as much unless our pcm is tuned for F/I.

A turbo may happen, but not likely very soon. Gm just loves to update its' entry level cars every few years just like they did with the Cavi . A rear wheel drive Cobalt will not roll off the line anytime soon. Remember that although those of us on this site are performance crazy, we represent a very small portion of the Cobalt target market. Most drivers in the Cobalt price range are looking for front wheel drive econo-boxes. Sorry to be the messenger of bad news.
