With all the talke about the '08...

Say you have a Black Cobalt SS S/C '06. With just a corsa touring exhaust on it. Would you continue to mod away and aim for better times at the track or screw it and trade it in and get a brand new '08 Cobalt turbocharged 260 hp, and then mod that out...And does anyone know the estimated price on the '08?

I plan on keeping mine and switching over to full turbo when it becomes an option. If it becomes an option to do the old head swap maneuver then I will do that. I see no reason why an ecotec motor can't have a head swap done to convert to VVT, much in the same way Honda owners swap B18 heads to get VTec.

They should be about the same price, unless the AWD rumors are true which I really doubt.

It all depends on whether you like the feel of a turbo or a supercharger. Personally I will be looking in to buying the new turbo, but I never buy a new vehicle in its first year of production. Too many problems. Estimated price will be a little bit more than the current ss/sc. But It will probably only be an extra grand or so.

Despite what sources some people sight on here I doubt the 08 will be turbocharged.

GM has no reason to make it turbo so why would they?

The Sky RedLine, Solstice GXP, HHR SS (same platform as the Cobalt) will all use the new turbo motor. It would be stupid to have the Cobalt SS all by itself with the old S/C motor. The HHR is next year and the Sky and Sol are beginning to be delivered next month!

By the way the SKy and Sol have 260 horses but that's just the beginning, GM wants to do a lot more with the new Ecotec. Maybe we'll see more for the Cobalt?

THe HHR and Cobalts are the same car, so why would GM do a turbo HHR SS but a Supercharged Cobalt. The Sol/Sky are Kappa cars but use the Ecotec.

Yeah they are RWD, if GM does upgrade the turbo ecotec it will take at least 2 years for upgrade kits. Just look how long it took for the Stage kits we have now. If they do turbo the Cobalt I will be waiting at least 2 years before I jump on the band wagon and will probably still keep my car now.

260 compared to 205 sounds like alot.

but remember, cobalts are dynoing at 220 whp....
conceivably the TC could dyno at 230 whp if its not underrated.

numbers can be skewed so easily....so dont assume its gonna be a monster compared to the ss/sc right out of the gate.

secondly....ill believe theres an 08 TC cobalt when i see the press release.

until then this is all farting in the wind.

I don't ever remember seeing or reading anything of a GM press release saying that the HHR SS will have the 2.0L Turbo engine. I've read websites claiming thats what they THINK it will be the turbo, but nothing confirmed.

When i was at the dealership picking up my car after the throttle body fix i was sitting outside smoking. there was some dude that i never saw at the dealership in a suit with all the salesmen. They were going over an '07 aveo and he was talking about some of the '08 cars. He did say that the '08 HHR will have a 2.0 turbo at 260 hp, so yes it will exist, and it will be availiable in the gay HHR.

If GM was smart, they would put the turbo Ecotec into the Cobalt and put the supercharged Ecotec into the HHR. The would please the old hot rodders that are actually buying the HHR.

All of the 08 Turbo speculations are based off of talk or internet buzz.
