Google lied to you. Go kick his ass.

Seriously though, it mustve been a grandma driving if it ran 15.9. I might believe that time if it was done with an auto tranny. (No offense to the auto people on here)

The day, the altitude, the track, the driver, the fuel, the tires, the tire pressure....it all matters.

Motor Trend = quarter mile = 15.6 @ 90.0 in their last Import Car Of The Year competition for a 2.4 SS 4-door 5-speed. I reprinted the entire text on the board at:

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...t=13980&page=2

(It was a very short article).

On a great day at sea level with a nice, sticky track (or not - depends on your launch style) and an experienced driver (I've been doing this since we won 2nd at the Nationals in 1974, so I'm either experienced or too old to have the reflexes, I'm not sure which ) and we could see right at 15.

Checking the board GTP got 15.1 @ 94.7 mph with bad traction problems, so there's room for improvement. Marin077 shows 15.04@92.80mph (but that's Canada where the tracks are metric so are obviously faster ) and avro206 ran 15.72 @ 91.68 mph at 3490 ft altitude (again on a "metric track") which corrects to 15.0000001 or thereabouts

HAVE FUN!!!

i'd say 15.3-15.7 is a good range for both 5 spd and auto, from the looks on the other thread it seems that a tuned auto 2.4 with some mods can be at low 15s which i think is excellent.

My time is in my sig. That was ran at Norwalk, OH which tends to be accurate. But like others have said, it all depends on the weather and where your at and such.

I/ve run many times 15.20, 15.22, 15.24 etc stock, and a couple 15.05, 15.07, 15.08 with a homemade intake. it depends on driver, tepm, altitude etc.

I'll be in the 14's once I get new tires with no mods other then a drop in K&N this fall (when its retarded cold out) makr my words. (BTW - the 15.20 was stock in 27 degree celciuos, or about 84 F)

Okay, I'm probably a bad stick driver because this is my first stick shift car, but I went to the track a few weeks back in St. Louis, and the best run I could manage was 15.9. What the hell?! What am I doing wrong? Please help...I was expecting low 15s but when i went and saw the exact opposite, I was quite upset to say the least.

That would have pleased me. 15.9 is rediculous! How did you launch the car? What do you think I'm doing wrong?

your first stick and probably your first time drag racing witha stick eh? Mystery solved.

My very first pass on a 76 Camaro (350/4 speed) got a mid 17--after a few runs I got the best out of it. Now a Cobalt is harder to launch--given the FWD and the wheelhop.
