be careful taking ss to car wish, my keys got locked in!!
I took my car to the carwash that I always took my vw to yesterday. The guy hops in, pulls the car up, and starts vacuuming with another guy vacuuming the other side. He closes the door and the car goes thru. I pay, then when the car hits the end, the 2 guys are trying to open the doors and the car is LOCKED!!!! The car died sometime between when the guy pulled the car into the car wash and the time they went to open it. The keys were in the ignition in the on position but the car was off. Luckily my mom was at home 10 minutes away and brought me my spare set. I just wonder how the hell it happened! I was watching the whole time and it didn't look like he stalled the car pulling it in. The irony in this all is I stared and read the sign that said not responsible for locked in keys due to alarms, so turn you alarm off. I never thought the car would lock itself with only the factory alarm.
Check your manual, there is a way to program your locks so as to not lock with the key in the ignition (unless you drive over 10 mph, of course, but they would have had to unlock it again to get out). My GTP was the same way and there were more than a few times that I left the keys in the ignition when I got out of the car, hit the lock button on the door, but it wouldn't lock. Saved my butt many times.
My favorite car wash story is when I took my Formula to one. For those not familiar, all you have to do to close the rear hatch is gently lower it till it clicks, then a motor pulls the hatch down tight. This car wash had a couple of idiots that couldn't figure that out. I looked outside and saw one guy slamming the hatch closed over and over again while the other guy kept hitting the button to pop it back open, they weren't giving the motor anytime to pull it closed and thought it just wouldn't latch. By the time I got out there and yelled at them it was already broke. The motor is encased in plastic that mounts to the car, so you basically have to buy a whole new motor when the mounts break, $210 new, $130 used (if you can find one). The car wash would only pay half.

Yeah, a friend of mine ran out of gas in her Pontiac one of the first years they had the automatic locks when the car is moving, she left the keys in the car to keep the steering wheel free, pushed it about 10 feet to the side of the road, you guessed it. Doors locked. With the car in neutral, keys dangling from the ignition slot. She could not have been pushing it more than a snails pace, but there it was.
