I'm getting ready to go the the track soon and i remember reading about how some people were reving their engines to about 2k and dropping the clutch and getting traction.. now i was at a light and tried this and all i got was a shitload of wheel hop.. then i tried again and nothing but wheel spin (at about 1900).. now i can launch really good by rolling on the the throttle.. any thoughts?

 

Again, no two cars are the exact same, find a safe place to practice just your launch. 2 grand is a decent rpm range to start. I tend to feather it off the launch, then full throttle halfway through first and so on. Best advice I can give you is to practice, it took me awhile to learn how to launch it correctly. And I just got out of a vette. My car does NOT have the limited slip however, but it will soon. (Dad is the head for GM Accessories on the west coast).

Again, practice makes perfect.

 

I slip it around 1800-1900 rpm I also get a lot of wheel hop and spin if I go over 2k.

 

also remember that most tracks do put done vht which will give you more traction than what you would have on the streets.

 

go around the bleach box at the track, not even necessary unless your gonna do a heating burnout

 

The street has WAY more traction than the dragstrip, even on days when the track prep is optimal.

Case in point: I can roll into the throttle to WOT in 1st on the street and only get minimal tire slip. If I go more than 1/2 throttle at the strip in 1st it is spin city. On the street I can WOT shift to 2nd and only get a single bark, at the strip WOT shift into 2nd yields massive tire spin most of the way through 2nd.

As for launching. I've found that (for the SRT-4) holding the throttle steady at about 2500rpm, then letting the clutch out fast without dumping it, but not moving the throttle foot. Then when the car starts moving, roll into the throttle. You'll just have to practice to get a feel for how quickly you can roll into the throttle.

I've cut 2.0 60's using that method at the strip on the stock 205/50R17's the SRT4 came with, tires aired down to about 25psi.

You're right on. WOT = Wide Open Throttle (aka pedal to the medal)

 

I hope no one says you need LSD or it will take off better.

Just meesing around I have tried several different methods. These things are touchy! During my first week of owning this thing I couldn't launch it.

- To much throttle lets it start boosting the instant you let the clutch out making short work of the Pirelli's

- To little throttle and it bogs
