I just emailed Sport Compact Car...
...I swear to God if I see one more rambling about the new Skyline or Mazdaspeed3(Focus RS anyone) I think I may puke...
Hello my name is Steve Sharpe, and I have read your magazine for about 6 years now. I will get straight to the point: Cobalt SS. Where is it? You turbocharge a discontinued car as a new project car (RSX-Type S) and bring back the Toyota MR2. I bought my Cobalt SS/NA back in April excited with the fact that it was only a matter of time you guys told me how to make this car stupid fast; in any contest of speed. No, issue after issue I see ramblings about the new Skyline or the new Mazdaspeed3 . PLEASE, I swear if you wait until that van hopped up on steroids(the Caliber SRT-4) to go back to the domestic Compact scene, I might as well waste my time altogether and read your sister mag. I am truly upset with the same cars every month, the Mazdaspeed3 is a Focus RS and the Caliber…well is a Caravan with a lot of BHP.
SCC is the only magazine out that does it right, without a ludicrous amount of nitrous or turbos the size of my house. I am a member in the forum www.cobaltss.net, and I am not the only one who is wishing you guys would pay attention to the Cobalt. Every car in its class it runs with or beats, both SS models. Give it a tuning chance…and keep up the good work!
Eagerly waiting,
Steve
P.S. Love the reviews on the new K-cars and have been an EVO fan at heart forever, this month’s issue with the Lancer Ralliart made me so excited.

Don't hold your breath! Most of the tuner scene see the Cobalt as nothing more then a re did Cavalier. Doesn't matter how much ass it can kick or how ggod it looks its just a Cavalier in their minds. I agree with you 110% but its not gonna change thier minds.
Unless it has GTR or EVO??? or SRT on it they could care less. So ya know what we do? We come here, get together and figure out what we need to make em fast then we go kick the asses of the cars they like.
I hope they have the ***** to publish your letter! And let us know if you get a responce from them.

Why do you even read those garbage tuner mags. They are all rice and girls with little clothes on and very little actual content. I'm kind of glad we aren't getting much page space in their mag, because if so it would mean our car is being bastardized and riced out.
The less people know about our car the better. It makes for better looks on their smug little faces as we glide by them on the track. If you want to know how to make good numbers with your car, you are in the right spot. You don't need a tuner mag to tell you, just look around here.

Sport Compact Car, is in California not overseas. As well SCC will be featuring my car once it is done. They are just waiting for the car to be finished and tuned, so they can send someone up from CA to photograph and dyno the car. We were hoping for track results but that saddly won't happen until next year.
earlier in the year, I posted about how a Cobalt SS/SC laid waste to the competition at a time attack event hosted by Super Street... you want to hear whining and crying, read that article...
Sport Compact Car used to be hafway decent, but now, they are like every other compact magazine... honda honda honda, nissan nissan nissan, drift drift drift.
Blah.
the last letter i wrote to super street appeared in this months issue... here it is:
"Maybe Next Time"
In your "Top Ten Engines Of All Time: feature some time back, I was a little disappointed to not see the Ford 2.3L OHC Turbo nor the Chrysler 2.2/2.5L Turbo. These engines were definitely the equal to any import engine of the time and even today continue to power some of the fastest street machines out there. In the case of the 2.3L, Ford grossly underrated it's power at 140hp. These engines were much closer to 175-190hp stock! In the case of the Chrysler engine, it was the first American engine to really bringing turbocharging to the masses. Chrysler turbo-ed everything! And the durability of these engines was pretty amazing. As a Cobalt driver, I think the L61 2.2L Ecotec and LSJ 2.0L SC Ecotec will be on that list in coming years. Anyway, I Just thought that these two engines should've had their day in the sun, or at least an honorable mention.
their snotty reply-
Alright, Scott, you've gotten your way and now the perenially disrespected Ford 2.3L OHC Turbo and Chrysler 2.2/2.5L turbo engines have had their fifteen minutes. Good call- everyone feel better?
Scott

At first I hated it, not seeing a cobalt in a mag or having it in a mag and getting ripped apart by some honda fan boy humping the exhaust of his new si. Now I think of it the other way as the car being so exotic that the car world will think of it as a collectors item or something like that boosting the cars value sky high.
I used to be a subscriber of "Sport Compact Car" and "Turbo & High Tech Performance" back in the early 90's, they have always been import focused. It is kinda dissapointing to not see much press coverage regarding the Cobalt, but I knew that when I bought it and I actually like it for a few reasons. 1) The mags would probably do a good job in the performance category, but they would also 'rice' them out to no end. 2) I like that still after almost 2 years of having my car that people are still surprised by it's performance and ask me questions about it.
I do look forward to seeing victory_red_SS's readup in SCC, and it will be the first issue of that mag I have purchased in over 5 years. I hope they do a good job in the article.
And steddy2112, be prepared to read your email in an upcoming SCC mag with a 'witty, and flaming' response, similar to that of Adirondack_Cobalt's. They flame what they don't understand or are afraid of.

That's the way the whole import scene is now. It's sad. Instead of building friendships with people who have similar interest kids would rather bash each other and put each other down. It's part of the reason I shyed away from a Cobalt at first but I liked the car enough to get past that.

I'm an automotive enthusiast, I like all makes and models. From imports to domestics; from SUV's to Compacts, if it has wheels and an engine, I like to know more about it, and like to see how different people customize them. It is tough to find that mentality in the import/sport compact scene these days. They all have their fanboi blinders on. (I know there are some like me, please do not take this as a generalization of import owners.)

I am like you, I am an enthusiast. I know sometimes I can get on my high horse but I just have to tell myself to back down. I appreciate anything with effort put into it though and I respect all the other cars.
I have heard the Honda/Acura guys are pretty bad, but I have had little dealings with them.
honda/acura guys can be pretty bad...i had some this weekend putting my car down and saying theirs could take it with no problem. funny thing is...my cobalt is one of the first two in the entire area and neither of them have ever really been in one, raced one, or know much about it.
i told them id line up with them anyday, anytime, anyplace and even if i lose i will give them a run for their money...
i am also an enthusiast...take any car, any at all, if you put the time and effort into it and make it a competitor then i will give you the respect you deserve, just dont put my car down when you know absolutely nothing about it and insist that all it is a cavalier with a body kit

I have never baught a car magazine before. They are too expensive and full of cars that will never be affordable to the average tuner. Besides, most of them have either a skyline or a 350z on the cover. I would have to admit, if I saw a mag with the Cobalt, I would jump on it even if it was like 20 bucks,.

Oh well... i've been driving J-bodies for the past decade and before that it was 2.3L Fords... i'm used to being an underdog.

The interior stays stock except for the 3 gauge pillar pod and the victory red roll cage.
I had thought about dressing it up a bit with ShowMe Street Customs custom pieces but that won't happen now.
