View Full Version : Another dissapointing thing about Stage 2

Well, there was a small debate a while back as to whether the stage 2 kit could be sold second hand if you had it removed from your car by a dealer. Well you can't, because stupid gm is just that stupid. You would think that they would have counted on people wanting to sell them second hand after dropping a crap load of money into it, but no. Yet another wonderful gm policy. So if you are going to buy GM stage 2 make sure that you are never going to do more moding to your car.

Also, after talking with the service guys at the dealership who were talking to the tech line guys we found out that the warranty that comes with the stage kit is a part warranty for the stage kit only. It doesn't necessarily keep you manufacturers warranty. For those who said that their dealership "said" that the kit retains your manufacturers warranty make sure you have that in writing.

I used to really like the idea of gm stage 2 for those who wanted to lightly modify their cars, but now I think its absolute junk. If your going to buy a stage kit, go with one of the after market ones. At this point there is no difference between warrenty issues and at least you would be able to sell it when its done or add onto it.

but the people who a not mech. inclined would take the gm stage 2 route b/c its easier and prob wouldn't want to take the chance with the intense.

I could of told you all of that from the start. I baught the kit because mine a daily driver and im not planning on modding it anymore. My dealershi[ never put my warantee in writing because I shouldnt have to. Im a customer and if they fuck me, me and my whole family will stop buying GM and they know that.

i don't understand, they won't let you sell it... how can they possibly not allow you to sell something that you own? so they would take it off, but not let you keep it? they can't do that unless they give you money back for it... sounds more like a scam, they tell you you're not allowed to sell it, so they keep it and then sell it to someone else..

How can you sell the tune that goes with it anyways? Besides they wouldnt want you putting a used one in your car concerning warantee bla bla and make you pay for a new one.

They gave me all my parts back, but they will not allow another person to get the tune to actually run the parts.

You would be in the same boat with any of the aftermarket mail order PCM's as well , not just GM . How would u sell say an intense stg 5 tune , if u had no access to HP tuners ?

FYI - You dont need the dealer . HPtuners can pull out a GM stg 1 or 2 file . Or any willing aftermarket shop that has access to the LSJ pcm should be able to pull ur file and put it another car .

As far the warranty stuff goes

- GM dealer intall , your factory warranty IS preserved .

- YOU install yourself , your on your own shoulda a prob result due to the added parts . You DO have 12month/12,000 mile warranty on the integrity of the staged kit parts only going this route .

Correct me if I'm wrong, computers are coded to vin, swapping them means you void your warranty.

Oh James, I'll take your injectors soon. :)

They do indeed have the cars VIN inside.

um dude where have you been? all us stage 2 owners know all of this though the warrenty thing you were told is wrong cus it does keep the original new car warrenty PLUS the parts themselves have their own one year warrenty as do ALL gm parts.

The stage kits when installed are installed SPECIFICALLY to the vin number of the car they are installed too. If you ever need a reflash cus of PCM failure you can do it cus you specifically OWN the stage 2 flash specific to your car. This is exactly why people should NOT buy them from people off of ebay. Also a person that has purchased a kit off of ebay that was used before is likely to void their warrenty and the person that had it previously has also just voided their warrenty.

Well your installing a kit that was sold to another car anyway. They arent' gonna be able to prove that you sold the mod after X miles themselves, (willingly) so it's best off that they don't warrenty it at all after you sell the kit. It makes things a lot simpler for them, and add to that you aren't a dealer.

SO if you buy the kit and it breaks on you, they have to fix it. But if you buy the kit, sell it later, and then person X wants it fixed... they are up shit creek without a paddle. ;)

someone else can buy the kit if they want but they will NEVER get it flashed. the second they try to get it flashed and the car is scanned 2 warrenties are going out the window.

Look at my sig, how much warrenty do you think i have left. As far as i am concerned, you should be able to sell it. You can sell mopar stage 2, cobb stage 2, ect....

As for the warrenty, like i said i argued with my dealer who argued with the gm tech line (the one that the dealer awnsers to) and they clearly stated that stage 2 does not maintain the warrenty. This pissed me off when my dealer calmly said "Oh, I guess stage 2 isn't covered under warrenty"
