What would be some good mods to help me in AutoX and Road Racing? I am really going to be getting serious into it next spring and summer. going to spend the winter to tune

I was going to invest in rear anti roll bar(progress) GMPP front rotors (of course I am buying my own helmet tired of renting) thinking about Dezod 2.75 exhaust.

Coilovers, sway bars, and if you're serious about it, smaller/lighter rims with R-compound tires on them.

depends on how much money youve got, and what class you want to run in. the mods alleycat mentioned are mostly good but id go for wider lightweight rims. look for some 15x8 and use hoosiers id say 275/50/15 youll get much less wheel spin outta the turns and harder launches at the line plus you can run slightly lower tire pressures to enhance what mechanical grip youve got. just make sure you get wheels with minimal backspacing so the tires wont rub suspension parts. diamond racing wheels are a great company theyll make a set of wheels to your specs for about 300 bones. next step would be brakes larger rotors with two piston calipers and grippy pads. replace every rubber bushing with poly ones. racing harnesses really help and most importantly practice practice practice.

I think 16s are the smallest we can go. any smaller and you will be rubbing against the Caliper

Agreed.... first you need to decide what class you want to run in, and how much you can spend on Autox...

The cheapest way to go, is stay in stock class, but if you want some fun for your daily commute, those mods will bump you clean out of DS.

16"s are the smallest wheel that will fit without clearance issues. That will put you in STX I believe.....Or maybe DSP... I'm fuzzy on some rules.

You ARE allowed to increase the ROLL BAR/SWAY bar (front only) and remain in stock.
You ARE allowed to swap better pads.... but not calipers or rotors. That throws you out of stock.

as soon as my new wheels get here (17x7.5) i can get some stickier tires. and whenever I get some adjustable struts I'll be sitting pretty.

coming alright. Running B&G springs SMS front Sway bar, I have BWoody's Rear Strut bar haven't installed it yet. plus Stage 2.

I really recomend some CABs if you get the extra cash

a noob question and an old thread.

but it's ok I didn't really notice much from a strut tower brace until i took it off and that was when driving down the road if the road was uneven on certain parts the car would swerve but with it on the car would stay pretty straight. it's desgined to stiffen up the front end a little bit and keep the struts from getting to free when cornering hard. I dont know sommone here might have a better explination

you mean dot compounds?? whats an r compound if im wrong?? yeah limited slip would definately help , strut sway bar , lowered , less weight , shit remove all the bullshit you dont need ,ac , backseats , cruise control , sunroof motor, spare tire , replace your stock seats with racing seats , but for free sell your stockers and take the money and buy some lighter seats umm take out the factory 10 , traction mods at least ingalls , you never know if your gonna wheel hop out of a turn thats about it

R Compound tires are design strictly for racing, They are not Street legal. If a cop pulls u over and recognizes the tires as R Compound then they impound your car. (Happened to a friend with a suped up Miata) as far as Dropping weight yeah it helps but I wouldn't do it unless your building a full race car. My Redline is a DD(Daily Driver) so I like having the back seats. AC, Cruise control. And if your going that far and remove all that stuff Y not get a full Roll cage installed, It helps in Handling and protects you from a roll over. Go to driving school. that is one of the best Mods you can do.

if your going to do auto x alot..the gm competition steering knuckles, to protect your car from being destroyed, the car can snap the stock peice, then it will drop to the ground

That should not be true. Definitely not true for the Avon Tech-Rs that I have or any other R-compound I've seen. As long as they have some "tread" (in this case, an indented line in the middle) that is measurable and meets inspection criteria (i.e. they're not worn past what would pass inspection) they are 100% street legal. If your friend got his Miata impounded JUST for R-compounds then he should have fought them.

Only reason I know is because I had issues getting a tire off after an auto-x and one of the participants is a PA state trooper and told me I would be absolutely legal driving them home. There are other tires that are NOT street legal, but most R-compounds are, but you'd be pretty dumb to run them on the street.

My friend did fight it and lost. It may vary from state to state. but in GA R Compounds are not Legal period, unless u are going to the track that day or coming home from it. GM performance knuckles is a great investment. Don't know if you'll get any better handling but I hear if you do a lot of AutoX and Road Racing its highly reccomended.
