View Full Version : fast 2.2
colt 22 06-27-2005, 12:56 AM Today I found myself racing against a stock (at least I thought it was stock) year 2000 or newer toyota celica gts. From a red light we go. Were side to side up until about 60mph. after that, I flew past him. Agt the next red light, he asked me what I had under the hood. I told him, just a stock 2.2 145 horses. he said, "oh shit, really!?" I told him, " yup, thats it." He said cool car, I smiled and said thanx and we went our separate ways. All i did was open the air box.
cvenom2122 06-27-2005, 12:58 AM could have been a slower model with the decal emblems changed :)
DC52NV 06-27-2005, 12:59 AM oh wow, and so it begins.
colt 22 06-27-2005, 01:04 AM I think you may be right about the emblem change cvenom. but it still was great to dust a celica.
PatDamanCobalt 06-27-2005, 11:22 AM how do i do that to my air box? and is it safe?
brianfcp 06-27-2005, 11:36 AM wow, doesnt the gts model have 180 hp?
colt 22 06-27-2005, 02:13 PM where the air box is there is a pin on the left side and one at the top left corner. unlatch the pins and lift up on the box. pick up the the filter and place it under the top half of the box. now place the filter with the top half of the box on the two pins. with the pins in the latched position, the filter and box should just rest on top of it. Yes its perfectly safe. I've done it on all five of my previous vehicles. The air box is now open, but he filter is still in place allowing alot more airflow that acts like a real intake, while still blocking dust and debris. Feel free to pm me with any questions you may have
phxSS 06-27-2005, 02:20 PM It was probably the GT, not GT-S....the GT is 140hp, which right up your alley. GT-S is 180hp, which I doubt it was. Especially when you said you beat him on top end. That's where they shine.
BoostFire03 06-27-2005, 03:24 PM even the GTS celicas arent all that quick they have dirt poor torque to go with that 180 hp 15 second cars, so its really not all that unbelieveable especially if it was a short distance, in a quarter or slightly farther hed probably catch up and pass.
not the same as all but a similar situation, my 5 speed Ecotec sunfire stock with 18's and a urathane body kit would always take my friends 5 speed Integra GSR stock for the first 1/8th at the track but he would always catch up after and pass slightly after, similar situation but his was 175hp with a similar torque disadvantage. just saying in a short race is possible but he was sayin at 60 he started to pull when i would expect that to be the time the celica should pull so who knows, why am i even still typing?
celicacobalt 06-27-2005, 08:01 PM well, i have a 2002 celica gt-s automatic and the gearing is horible so if it was an auto then i can see this being possible since we only have 130 lbs tq compared to your 155 lbs but even an auto should come back in the top end since thats where lift kicks in. in a 6 speed gt-s i dont see this happening. a gt definately.

I just did the exact same thing to my cobalt and it really works. It sounds a lot better with the filter just sitting there
colt 22 06-27-2005, 10:38 PM Glad to see the airbox idea works with other people besides me. I do love that nice deep sound and it wont ruin anything except peoples thoughts as we fly by them.
can someone make a post on this airbox thing, im interested
PatDamanCobalt 06-28-2005, 01:55 PM I was told that this airbox trick could void warrenty's if it gives off a CEL code. And whats stopping any dirt from getting into it?
colt 22 06-28-2005, 09:48 PM it can't void warranty if factory parts are still installed on vehicle. and dirt may still get in the box, the same way it did before, when it was complety stock. thats why the filter is still attached. The intake is sucking air in through the filter the same way as before, just more air is going through. No voided warranty. No computer codes or annoying warning messages. No extra cost on aftermarket performance mods.
