View Full Version : Review: Cobalt-addiction header
06blackg85ss 09-16-2006, 09:08 AM Just installed the new C/A header last night... WOW!!! I didn't dyno it yet but can definatly feel the difference in the Butt Dyno (independent testing showed a 10 hp gain with a stock setup, god only knows what I got) ... install was smooth, easy and no problems... comes with gaskets and new studs... Car sounds much different now, even more beastly (which I didn't think was possible). hopefully have some pics up later. Right now they are for sale for a blowout introductory price of $199.99 plus shipping... (these ones are for 2.5" d.p.'s but can be used on 3" d.p. 's which I have, 3" outlet version coming soon which I'll be installing for yet another review)
Yet again big thanks to Kenny... you da man!
BooSSted 09-17-2006, 03:12 AM No offense but I think we need an unbiased review. I'm not discrediting you or CA in any way, but I personally don't see you giving it a bad review if it wasn't up to par!
P.S. I can't find it on the wedsite. Am I blind or is it not there?
06blackg85ss 09-19-2006, 08:42 AM WWW.cobalt-addiction.com they just put it up on the site last night... and trust me , if it wasn't good... I wouldn't use it
badg1rl 09-19-2006, 08:55 AM yeah you have to remember paul is a customer just like everyone else...he started coming to meets and thats how he met me and learned of CA. He has tried our products, and enjoys them and his car has reputable performance with the mods he has chosen to do. i am sure that if there was something he felt was inadequete he would let us know and we in turn would do more R & D .
06blackg85ss 09-19-2006, 09:10 AM well the car did have some awesome performance until sunday... check the atco thread.. but yeah as I said... I use what works and deal only with good people, thats why I back parts from them... wouldn't if I didn't use them myself.

Sounds good bro. I ordered mine last night. I can't wait. Any heat issues from the header? Anytime I have put a header or headers on a car they caused some extra heat.
06blackg85ss 09-19-2006, 09:41 AM It's definatly hotter under the hood... but not bad compared to other cars I've owned.
cvenom2122 09-19-2006, 09:43 AM which coating is the one that lasts longer? the black or the metalic silver one
CTCOBALTSSS 09-19-2006, 09:45 AM It's definatly hotter under the hood... but not bad compared to other cars I've owned.
Yeah that's what I thought. Well either way it's well worth it. Can't wait!
06blackg85ss 09-19-2006, 09:45 AM Well so far with the silver all paint is still there
Asphalt Assault 09-19-2006, 10:28 AM hmm generating heat. we need hood vents. I will have to see if Cobalt Addiction has that.
I want to modify my hood something awful to get better rad flow and allow heat to escape from the back of the motor.
any ideas out there. (not Hijacking the thread, It is related to Header)

Hmmm I know there is definitely more heat generated wich is ok in the winter but summer is a totaly different story. The only things I can think of are
1. Electric fan that runs off a toggle switch you can turn on whenever you want.
2. A vented hood.
05BlackCobaltSS 09-19-2006, 10:36 AM You could see if someone makes a hood (or make it yourself) that has some "fins" cut right near the windshield. Let me try and find a pic......

Hey bro what kind of temps are you running now?
05BlackCobaltSS 09-19-2006, 10:43 AM Ok, i couldn't find a GREAT pic, but this is what i'm thinking of

EDIT: But run them length-wise across the hood, and make them a bit longer.

You could always have the header wrapped. I will probably do mine and maybe even the DP when I decide to order.
I had been waiting to see what all came out,,, but it looks like I'll be going the CA route too. I'm happy with the other stuff I've bought from them so far.
Still waiting on the redesigned strut bar brackets though
patathSS 09-19-2006, 10:47 AM Hey bro what kind of temps are you running now?
You probably won't notice an increase in engine temps but the heatsoak will be a greater problem.

Yeah header wrap I frikin completely forgot about that. How long does that wrap last?
Who makes the best header heat wrap?
EDIT: This is the good stuff.

06blackg85ss 09-19-2006, 10:50 AM Hey bro what kind of temps are you running now?
I was running about 5 deg hotter than before (header goes over coolant pipe in back) but Iat's were the same... too bad the car is down for the count now.... hopefully have it back in 2 weeks or so.

Those temps don't sound that bad. What happened to your car?
You think it's worth heat wrapping the header?
06blackg85ss 09-19-2006, 11:31 AM question is what didn't happen to my car.... blown tranny? def clutch (came out the top of the tranny, axle, and who knows what else).

How did that happen?
06blackg85ss 09-19-2006, 11:58 AM don't know... was at a roll... hit the gas (only half throttle) and bam car doesn't move no more

Hey man, is the heat in the engine bay increased alot? How long was shipping....?
06blackg85ss 09-20-2006, 01:19 PM not that bad... I'm at the shop every week... so I just picked mine up... shouldnt take that long for shipping though

So it's nothing I'll have to worry about in the heat of summer? My last car had a header on it, but it was ceramic coated, and there was a heat increase, but nothing substantial. You think the heat increase would be about the same if any with this header, basicly do I have to worry about anything melting or overheating? Just got my tracking #...
I have a 2.2 BTW
sushidog 09-20-2006, 07:57 PM I do not recommend wraping a header on a street car. The increased temp. could cause the header to crack - I've seen it happen more than once.
Before you wrap, check with CA to see if this will void their lifetime warranty. Most header manufacturers will not honor their warranty if wrapped.

Yeah good call. I don't plan on wrapping mine. Damn this header is good quality. I'm holding it in my hand right now. You guys that ordered it are going to be pleased.
06blackg85ss 09-20-2006, 08:20 PM if anything.,.. you can modify your stock heat shield to fit over it... I did

Just get an aftermarket DP with a high flow cat. You should be good to go.
The stock DP is just too restrictive.
