as of right now i hav a 05 neon sxt that i am going to be trading in because i would like a manual transmission, now what my question is should i go for the neon with manual transmission (not srt-4), or the cobalt 2.2L wiht manual transmission because they are both around the same price.

i know this is a cobalt forum and all that but i really wanna know which one is faster stock vs stock.

go with the Cobalt 2.2 with manual. (this is a biased opinion) But if you get an 07 model you get 5 yr/100K powertrain warranty

 

the cobalt has more torque, if you test drive both you will feel a definite difference, i did when i bought my car. plus i think the fuel economy is better, cobalt just makes sense

 

I've gone up against half a dozen SXT's (and a fake SRT-4) over the past year and have yet to lose..always pull at least a car length..and I'm auto as well... some were modded with exhausts and intakes but still the same outcome.
Neon is 132/130 vs Cobalt 145/155 (hp/tq)

 

ACTUALLY, Dodge doesn't makes the Neon anymore. I believe it has been replaced with the CALIBER. So you won't be buying a new Neon unless some dealership has an 06 still on the lot. I know the Dodge dealership in my town hasn't had one for a good 9 months or so.

But as stated before... GM's new warrenty... it's pretty hard to beat. PLUS, the ECOtec engine that the Cobalt's use is race proven... you RARELY hear of any Cobalt owner having true engine troubles.

cobalt is definately faster.. i've beaten several sxt's with my auto 2.2, before any mods at all... has less hp and a lot less tq...

 

I thought the Dodge Neon R/T was 150HP?

actually if I had a choice between the Neon and Cobalt...I'd go for the Ion QC

 

Sorry just a peeve but coming from the Neon world to the Cobalt World the Neon ended production in 2005 not 2006, if you saw an "06" Neon then they may have screwed up or there was something fishy going on.

 

Well... i thought they ended production in 05... but I wasn't sure... so I googled it... and saw a couple things about 06 neons.. they must not have known what they were talking about. My Bad, i should have gone with my gut instinct.

LOL neon vs. cobalt...stock for stock...and the neon will win! Sorry to disappoint you guys...but horsepower and torque aren't the only deciding factor in winning races. If anyone wants to try my theory...come around my neck of the woods...there are plenty of bone stock neons i'd love to throw up against anyone with a bone stock 2.2L.

FWIW, ran my g/f's '07 2.2 5-speed against another friend's Celica GT 5-speed last night....DEAD EVEN. And that's a 140hp/118ft.lb. car.

 

I have raced a few Neons......They haven't beaten me yet!

 

What kinda Crack have you been smoking my friend? I have an AUTO Cobalt 2.2L and I almost beat a Celica GT-S. Celica's (no matter what model) are Shlow.

Also there is only 2 Neon models that can beat even the slowest Cobalt. The Sport model 150 hp 5 speed and the SRT-4. Any other model doesn't even compair.

and i'm sorry...but your low 17 second ATX cobalt can't compare to a low 15/high 14 second GT-S no matter what you smoked for breakfast. But then again...the typical group that goes out to find out what they can outrun tend to get into races where the other driver has no clue that they're a participant in a speed competition.

What's next.... "my atx 2.2 cobalt will outrun mustang gt's all day long!!!!!1111!!!"

haha... don't think anyone's hit 17's yet... unless they were high... they are not the fastest cars out thtere, ****, there'e not even really fast at all... but the fact remains that even an auto 2.2 cobalt will beat a manual transmission base neon... end of story...

And you're more than welcome to bring your ATX base cobalt on down anytime...like I said, I know many 5-speed base neons i'll throw up against your cobalt any day of the week. Hell i'll even go for the slow 2000 ATX base neon bastard child...and bet it'd still be a damn good race. Any takers???

these kinds of debates are silly and immature... really, who cares... if you're telling me that your stock base neon can keep up with a high 14 second car, something doesn't add up... 130 hp and less tq in no way shape or form will get you high 14 seconds, i don't care how you drive... if you're modded, well that's a different story... but it was stock for stock... with average drivers, the cobalt would win the race whether it is a 1/4 mile or auto-x doesn't matter... cobalt would win both... if you have an exceptional driver in the neon, and a shitty driver in the cobalt, maybe it would go the other way... but it is absolutely not possible for a stock base model 130 hp neon to run a high 14...

i'm not bashing your car, or saying it's shitty, or anything like that... but let's keep it real here... stock for stock a cobalt would pull it...

^^ true.. comparing a stock car to a modded one is not cool... stock vs stock would be a good race... i'm not saying a cobalt would smoke the neon, or make it look stupid, but it would win...

 

i'm not comparing my modified neon to a stock one...im' comparing the 2 or 3 100% bone stock 2nd gen neons running around here to a bone stock cobalt. I'm not that cocky...comeon!

and I love the "no matter what, it's still a neon" quote. I've heard that from sooo many mustang's, camaro's, WRX's, etc. If that's all you have to come back with, I'll just sit back and laugh, because you'll have the tail lights memorized on mine.

I just love how everyone talks so tuff over the internet. It really is too bad there is a boarder and 100's of miles seperating us. I would love to race a "fast" Neon for once. It would be a nice change
