View Full Version : Why is everyone selling their Ingalls Torque Brace?
CTCOBALTSSS 09-22-2006, 02:50 PM Why is everyone selling their Ingalls Torque Brace?
I have seen at least 5 of them for sale just this week alone.
I'm just curious as to why! Thanks.
CTCOBALTSSS 09-22-2006, 04:01 PM OK? Nobody wants to say hah?
beamSS 09-22-2006, 04:18 PM i bought 1
CTCOBALTSSS 09-22-2006, 04:34 PM i bought 1
From a member or new?
uthinkimodd 09-22-2006, 04:42 PM maybe they realized there are better ways. such as mounts like me. ;) then again i never had a torque brace.
distillion 09-22-2006, 04:55 PM cuz the more powerful the car becomes the more of a chance it has to bend.
i know of a few people that have bent them already.
BanzaiSS 09-23-2006, 10:57 AM I installed mine last week. It's beefier than what is shown in the how-to. There's more metal behind the mounting holes for the dampner.
If you don't properly adjust the dampner length(total length) the brackets will bend.
Ingalls should weld on some triangulated supports for the taller bracket. This would eliminate some of the lateral movement of the brackets.
Banzai !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Allshot 09-23-2006, 11:00 AM They say it only bends if you dont adjust the brace correctly. It does create a little cabin vibration and maybe people dont like that.
distillion 09-23-2006, 11:01 AM my buddy installed it correctly, ran a 13.5 and it was toast...peace.
plyboy-illest 09-23-2006, 11:06 AM from what iv heard was there not the best thing to spend your money on
distillion 09-23-2006, 11:13 AM poly motor mount is what i have, along with the control arm bushings, this imo is a much better setup and the vibes of the motor mount are not that bad at all.
suburbanrobot 09-23-2006, 11:19 AM I installed the Ingalls torque dampner recently, I was looking for a solution to my wheel hop issues.
Well the wheel hop is 100% gone and I am very happy w/ the product. I have not noticed any increased vibrations. I have only the GMPP honed exh. manifold and am getting the GMPP performance exhaust this week. I went to a 21 turn road course yesterday and it performed well coming out of 70mph+ corners and has not bent as of yet.
I agree w/ what distillion says " cuz the more powerful the car becomes the more of a chance it has to bend".
So, the Ingall's might only be an initial solution.
BanzaiSS 09-23-2006, 12:06 PM I can definately see it bending with TRACTION and a hard launch. Ingalls could make the brackets a bit better............
It does work and the vibes are minimal.
One things for sure!!..............IT LOOKS GOOD, UNDER THE HOOD!!!:cssNET:

I've gone with poly mounts on other projects, They work great but I'm driving 100 miles/day and I guess I'm too old to deal with the vibes anymore.........
Banzai !!!!!!!!!!!!!
G5GT2007 09-23-2006, 12:23 PM sorry for being a newbie but what is a Ingalls Torque Brace. like whats it do. does it help with wheel hop or tire spineing and if i got one how do they go on your car?
CTCOBALTSSS 09-23-2006, 07:36 PM OK I see, so the guys that have uped their power big time are upgrading to something else. Thanks guys.
Matty 09-23-2006, 07:42 PM There's not alot of guys selling them, just a few. There are still many of us using it and I for 1 see no reason to get rid of mine. The more ways to combat wheel hop the better I say.
06blackg85ss 09-23-2006, 07:49 PM I still use mine hasn;t broke yet,,, but I also have a poly engine and both trans mounts and traction bars... so... it all works pretty good together.. too bad I got so much traction that I snapped an axle and broke who knows what else
Matty 09-23-2006, 07:52 PM I also use the JBP CAB's and fr. tranny mount (waiting for TTR to start selling the pop in bushings to get the rear one) No wheel hop whatsoever.
OniMirage 09-23-2006, 07:56 PM not to be a downer but I believe that they do not work at all.

I had the CAB's and tranny mount and was still getting a bit of hop. Put the TD on and voila, gone. Worked for me. ;)

Good stuff, I want to start working on traction now. :twothumbs

I would recommend doing the mounts and CAB's first. TTR is coming out with the 2 press in bushings soon. A very good deal. :cssNET:
All the bushings can be done at the same time...just cause the car is up on the hoist. :)

Will do. That makes sense. TTR got all the goods hah?

Allshot 09-23-2006, 08:20 PM I cant wait for the TTR Bushings. And there only going to be like $50.00 dollars.
SSinPhilly 09-23-2006, 09:28 PM well i want one if any1 has 1 for sale hit me up!

i doubt you would need one on a G5 very much
05BlackCobaltSS 09-23-2006, 10:33 PM I'm actually thinking about selling mine. I'm tired of the cabin vibration, and i want to get traction bars/poly mounts.

why? the 2.4l's get wheel hop just like you all might ss/sc guys. I even hear some 2.2 guys complain of it. Its more of the front suspension that causes wheel hop rather then power. Although the more power the more noticeble and severe it is.
Mine wore out fast, always had to tighten it up about every 2 weeks after I put it on. And worse than that, metal to metal connection to the chassis-engine was playing games with my knock sensor. Took it off and threw on those Intense transaxle mount inserts and have been much happier.

If you don't like the torque brace because of cabin vibration, you definetly won't like poly mounts.
SilverSS/SC 09-24-2006, 02:31 AM I cant wait till I can afford the motor mount , cab's and both tranny mounts . I can take the vibration of the poly mounts ...no problem . But the metallic rap noise of the ingalls I got sick off . Its installed correctly , the o-rings are good and Ive tried quite few other combos of o-rings ....and no matter what it still sounds like metal to metal , grrrrr . So I only put in on at the track now and take it off before I leave . Soon as I get the bushings it isnt going back on my car .
It did help the wheel hop though alot , I cant fault it there .
leviticus88 09-24-2006, 03:01 AM Alright, heres the truth. People don't know how to install them. They need to be exactly straight (not any angle from the side of the motor) and they need to be adjusted and then put on, not put on then adjusted. Ingall's is a great company that stands behind there product. I installed mine wrong and it started to bend, I went to them, got a new bracket and they showed me how to install it right. Since then ive dropped 1.5 sec. off my 1/4 mile time and it still hasent moved at all. Although, mounts are a better fix but this works fine for daily drivers. I love mine!
BanzaiSS 09-24-2006, 11:27 AM Yup, you must make sure the brackets are parallel to the motor mount and to each other. The instructions really don't emphasize this enough. I used a micrometer to make sure they were spot on parallel. Also the dampner must be perfectly adujusted for length. Make sure when you install, that you do it on a level surface.;)

CTCOBALTSSS 09-25-2006, 09:23 AM So what causes more vibration poly mounts or the Ingalls?
Matty 09-25-2006, 09:53 AM So what causes more vibration poly mounts or the Ingalls?
Mounts.

Do you have any pictures of your clutch and transmission housing? I'd like to see what all happened.
CTCOBALTSSS 09-25-2006, 09:59 AM Mounts.
Cool thanks Matty! You're a gentleman and a scholar.
I am seriously considering swapping mine out for a solid mount. I had the Ingal's set to 12mm, and the trans mounts, and still got enough wheel hop to take out an axle.
On a positive note on the run just before that one I spun alllll through first and still trapped 105.8
I may be okay now with the CAB's and axles,, but I def. do not trust this brace anymore
Matty 09-25-2006, 10:05 AM You're a gentleman and a scholar.
Not even close. Just ask Victory_Red_SS.
No problem though. Anytime. :cssNET:
BLKSS 09-25-2006, 11:15 AM I almost baught one of those. Then I learned how to launch without it. Nothing can beat a car that launches at 1200rpm, NOTHING!! hehe
i sold my ingalls because it made my car feel and sound like the engine was connected to the chassis with a chain. vibrated, rattled stuff, and im pretty sure it caused my clutch to start slipping.

Sounds to me like your running on borrowed time. I hope you're lucky enough to get away with it,,, but wheel hop will own our stock axles.
I would at least recommend that you do the trans mounts and CAB's if you plan to keep launching her hard

That's the price we pay. I have the trans mounts, CAB's and the Ingals,, and I don't think the vibes are really that bad. It helps to install them when its hot out, and pound on them for the rest of the summer though.
I actually think the vibes decreased when I installed my ingal's though ( I already had the trans mounts in, and they do produce ssome vibes)
But also , if you get staged, the idle speed is raised, which helps reduce vibes
buff_SS 09-25-2006, 01:43 PM I have an Ingalls brace (one of the newer ones) and it eliminated almost all of my wheel hop.
The 1st models from what I gather had thinner brackets....the new ones have beefier anti-bending ones..........
^^I too have the newer beefier brackets.
But once you go beyond stock power levels it won't be enough
My .02
DO the trans mounts
DO the CAB's
DO motor mount or Ingal's
Pray your axles hold

This is true. We have sold countless units AND have had 100% positive feedback with respect to the part itself.
