Which is a better car? Civic si, cobalt ss, gti
For my next car in a year i'm debating on getting a cobalt ss, civic si, or a gti. I might now go for the gti because it's kind of ovepriced. What do u think?

Thats a typo right you might NOT go for the gti bc its overpriced , seriously man to tell you the truth about the three if your buying this car bc you want to be fast and look good and have a good CHEAP aftermarket go with the cobalt ss the seats are even cool looking youll get a lot of people being like "what kind of car is that i like it" i think the fact that this car is the second fastest production car for its money (behind the dead srt4) and the thing that really reeled me in with this car is the 2 tone leather interior and the fact that it was a nice looking car i mean it comes with 18's thats huge for stock on a little car like that just the little stuff this car has is nice plus its blown
I like all three cars...but IMO i would still go with a Cobalt ss/sc because it is the nicest looking and coolest out of them all. The GTI has an awesome Interior however...but hatchbacks suck. The Civic SI is not that bad looking in SI trim but is still kinda fugly but has a nice N/A engine to work with and will have a good aftermarket (200 bhp and 11.0 compression ratio stock.) Last but not least the cobalt...the best looking one out of the three with the best egine with the best "cool factor." the fact it is supercharged is enough. Slap a CAI on it and really listen to the supercharger whine. I think that supercharger whine is way cooler (and not run of the mill) then a turbo car.
oh yea..dont forget the SS/SC is the cheapest out of them all in cost and most likely insurance.

Cobalt is the best handling/looking/speed
But you should be ready to buy a new clutch and possibly get new axels depending on your driving style
the cobalt rattles more than the vw and honda but its all little stuff that you can fix and try to stay away from the dealer as much as possible.
Cool thing is with the cobalt stage 2 kit you can get 34mpg on long trips going 80-85 mph

You need to go out and test drive every car possible within your price range to make a good decision. I have a SS/SC right now, but I am unhappy with it and I will be getting my Mazdaspeed 3 in a month or two. The GTI is really nice, but when I went to price one with decent options, it could easily rack up to near $30,000
It mostly depends on what you want most in a car though, but good luck and I hope you are happy with whatever desicion you make.
I went throught the same thing man, i wanted a GTI for the longest time at one point. Every car reviewer sweats the SI, personaly it dosn't impress me that much. If you want quality interior and pratically and don't mind being the slowest, get the GTI, the SI is well rounded but i dont think it excells in one feild, and if you want to be the fastest for under $25 go for the cobalt, it beats the other 2 and suprises a lot of people on the road, that or find a WRX or used SRT-4. It all matters on what you want, i think you wll be happy with any of those cars
So here's my opinion and I'll probably get flamed but to each their own...
I currently own a 2001 GTI (for sale) and a '06 SS S/C. Before buying the SS I also looked at the Si. I have driven the three you're asking about and have lookecd at all the stats and have driven 2 out of the 3 on a regular basis.
With all that being said, the question is "Which one is the better car?", I would quickly answer that the VW GTi is the better. Yes, it is overpriced and yes it is a tad fat but once you drive a german engineered car, it's hard to accept anything else. The interior, fit and finish and overall finess of the GTI is beautiful. Also the engineering behind the drivetrain is damn nice too with a very efficient motor and amazing DSG gear box ( I know, most people like manuals but theres something about a paddle shift tranny that will rev match, not miss shifts and will be quicker in the 1/4 than a manual).
Now before you bitch to me about how the GTI sucks bla bla bla...keep in mind that I am on a Cobalt website and did buy the SS over the GTI. Why did I do this you ask? 3 things, for the options that were on the SS S/C, the GTI would be int he mid 27k range, 2. the fact that I can modify the Cobalt with GM parts and (hopefully) not void the warranty and 3. The Cobalt has an LSD, something that VW will probably never offer. I am an auto-xer at heart and what kills me about my old GTI is it just lifts that inside wheel and spins worse that the local wanna-be DJ.
As for the Civic, I don't like Japanese cars but I also don't like the lack of torque on that car. It definately handles great and its amazing to hear a motor rev up to 8k rpms but when you have to wait for the car to start pulling, there's something wrong there.
Ok, now that you raed all that, you can flame me!
Oh, I forgot to add, people are making some sick power out of the GTI's 2.0t FSI motor. I've seen dyno's of somewhere around 280 wtq with exhaust, intake and chip.

Most people on here like all kinds of cars and accept others opinions, so I doubt you'll get flamed sicklyscott. As far as the GTi having better fit and finish, I totally agree, its very nice interior. The DSG is awesome, but for some reason I didnt feel like I was in a sporty car when I drove it. Cant say much about the civic having never driven one, but from what I've seen they're slow, hell most people here think the 2.4 SS is a good race vs the Si. Get the cobalt, dewing/debadge it and let everyone wonder what kind of car it is.
i almost bought a VW once(1.8T jetta)....ill agree the interior was 10x better then anything gm will be able to do (within the same class) but two things stopped me, yep #1 was their overpriced..they were selling 3-4 year old base modle jettas for the same price as my new balt, #2 there well known for making unreliable cars, and have fun trying to fix a vw on your own
the gti is not bad, but i think it's damn ugly... would never see me in a civic, just preference... everone talks about it like it's gods gift to man... meanwhile you're left with a 15 second car...
of course you're going to have biased opinions here, since it's a cobalt site... i would take a long hard look at all 3, and look at what you're going after.... i

im i proud owner of a cobalt ss/sc and 06 si love my cobalt yes it is faster but you cant beat hondas quality we had this car for 10 months already i have not had any problems with my si (12K miles) cant remember how many times i have been to the dealership to fix stupid little problems on the cobalt
I drive both cars and get more attention when driving the si but i do racing (illegal sometimes
drag racing, autox sometimes) thats when the cobalt comes handy
I would leave it up to you to decide which one to choose
shop around before you make any desicion every one have different taste
Whats yours????
IMO

i like the VW alot because its a turbo. i always have liked turbos, but once i got my SS/SC that kinda changed. that supercharger whine is nuts. i like it a lot. i agree that the interior of the VW is nicer. And as far as the SI goes, those are pretty sharp looking cars to me. then again thats personal opinion. whats fact is that it doesnt have any torque. i do like the fact that it redlines at 8k. All 3 are great cars. just depends on what you like better, lots of performance with mild fit and finish (SS), or great fit and finish with less power (SI), or pricey performance with good fit and finish (GTI)
I would say the cobalt but Im biased. Im not a honda fan somthing about driving a car with no torque just doesn't excite me. The gti would be my second choice, I agree with the others the interior is much better on the si and the gti, but for what I wanted the cobalt was the best choice. Drive them all and get the one that best fits your needs
I owned a SS/SC and almost traded her in on an 06 GTI. I test drove four different ones with different options mainly the DSG tranny and 6-speed.
I know this is a Cobalt forum, and I am a former Cobalt owner...but I am not a biased person at all when it comes vehicles period.
With that being said, I would own the GTI hands down. The interior is tight (as in parts don't jiggle around and start to rattle in 10 minutes), the materials used don't feel or look as cheap as the Cobalts, it's just very "professional" looking so to speak. Very comfortable. The ride is great, the car "feels" like it handled just as well as my Cobalt did. The gearbox is nothing short of spectacular in the 6-speed. Shifts were crisp and seamless...it didn't feel spongy at all like the Cobalt did...I HATED that. The FSI motor is great. It really does feel more torquey than the Cobalt did, even with the roots blower. I enjoyed everything about the car's interior, handling, power and ride. The only thing I liked much better on the Cobalt was the bodystyle and that LSD is an option (The GTI does not have LSD at all), it's just a cool looking ride. I liked the GTI, especially the front end, but I've never been too big of a fan of hatchbacks. But you can find some awefully sweet looking 06 GTI's with great looking bodykits (only seen a few that looked ricey) and wheel combos. The aftermarket will be all over them and Revo and a few other companies already have chips that pump out more than 280+wtq. Can't beat that for one mod.
The decision is yours, just drive them all and find what YOU like most and go for it.

cobalt ss= fastest, pretty nice interior, best looking(IMO), good price, reliable.
civic si=slowest but still quick, better quality engine, clean looking car, good price.
GTI=2nd in speed, nicest interior, good motor, waaay overpriced
it comes down to money, use of the car, and appearance that you prefer.
