Does the Cobalt have a Z designation?
Does the Cobalt have a Z designation?
Camaro has the Z28
Corvete the Z06
One of the suv's have Z71
and the Cavalier had the Z24 designation
Does the Cobalt have one?
And if not what do you think it should be?
I say Z41...

The "Z" isn't anything special, it's just the option code. For the Z28 it came to mean a new model, but that was just because people really bragged about that particulr option package. There are other Z packages out there. For instance, Z71 is just a suspension package for the trucks, Z51 is a suspension package for the corvette, etc.
Z66 is the road suspension for trucks.
Z option packadges are somthing special though. It was like the formula for the firebird on the camaro. All the substance, none of the fluff. Casue you couldnt' get a T/A with a hardtop on the last year models, you needed to get a formula.

Actually if you go on GMPartsDirect, you will see that there is a "Z61" package for the Cobalt. I have actually seen one at a dealer that they were trying to sell... nothing other than a base cobalt all badged up...
GM has always gone nuts with the 'Z' prefix...
the Citation X11 started life as a 'Z11'
Camaro Z28
Cavalier Z24
Cavalier Z22
Beretta Z26 (and don't forget the optional 'Z51' handling package for the Beretta)
Corvette ZR1, Z06...
Z, Z, Z... everything was a Z. Now, it's SS! SS! SS!
next there will probably be an Aveo SS for ***** sake!

As for the Z51, if you look at the catalog for 1988 Beretta, in the options column there was an option for the Z51 suspension. (I collect old product brochures- eh, it's a hobby)
As for the F41, that applied mostly the the N, J, A, and X bodies and it appeared on the bigger Olds Trofeo and Toronado.
I have an extensive library.

Well that explains that. Thanks guys.
But heres some food for thought.
Instead of doing the Z61 for base Cobalts why didn't they just make the G85 performance package for the Cobalt SS SC, Z85 instead and stick a badge for it under the Supercharged emblem on the sides of the cars? It would help furthur push the racing attitude by giving it a throw back to the Z28 camaro days even if it's only a LSD and Recaro's.
Hummm I might just look into getting said emblem for my car.
Oh and remove the bow tie from the back and put Z85 emblem in it's place.
