Edmund's SS/SC Review (brief)

http://blogs.edmunds.com/karl/311

Karl doesn't like our "not-so-super(charged)" cars.... (so witty)

The problem? Well cheap plastic and a lack of oil temp gauge of course...

I'll admit compared to a Honda, the Honda's got the up and up in quality yes, but what it lacks is in the engine compartment!!! The Cobalt is a far more attractive even you might say exotic and "got that need for speed" look!!

I don't care for the plastic in the Cobalt and even found my plastic trim around the button on my sunroof button falling off, (gravity sucks)! But everytime I look at my CobaltSS/na, I find it impossible not to be happy with the car .. This guy is probably just some guy who knows nothing about cars as the Cobalt seems to be popping up everywhere now and look at the options list etc!! the car speaks for itself!!!!!!!

i dont remember what magazine it was that tested the scion tc, gti, SI and cobalt but i liked the fact that they added the 3500+ dollar trd supercharger kit to the tc and failed to splurge a measly 700 bucks for the gmp stg 2 supercharger upgrade kit /sarcasm off

had they done so the cobalt ss would of totally blown away the competition

most people ask me if i have a custom interior when they see my car, the dash looks good to me, i could care less what its made of cuz i dont sit on it, the main flaw is the lack of a armrest..........but i dont think the cobalt will ever get its props.

the guy can't stop talking about the Si's stupid ass steering wheel or supposed better interior.. he failed to mention the SS will run laps around all the cars he mentioned in the story or that even if there is options on the car you don't like (I.E the wing) you can always swap out and since we have the optiion in 07 for what spoiler you want that should be irrvelvant.

I suppose this guy likes a plethora of gauges and wishes the car was a honda. hell I bet if it was stampped honda instead of chevy he would be like wow this thing is great! and rag on the SS if it had a 6 speed and stupid gauge cluster (hence the Civic). You can tell he is an import fan boy.

he says he really miss the SVT Focus...

the SS/SC could eat a dam SI and **** an SVT Focus

even the SVT guys on the SVT forum act like the SVT Focus doesn't exist because it is a hunk of slow ****! That guy is a MORON!!! Go blow your boyfriend in the Si, and go screw him in the Focus!

and i don't know why everyone loves the Si's 6 speeds...when you top out the 1-5 gears, and shift into 6th, it won't go anymore! That's right! the 6th gear is useless!

You actually go backwords in speed doing a top speed run shifting to 6th gear. It has literally no torque or HP to get it above 140.

Some on the Honda forums will say they got it faster but maybe if it's going down hill with a good tail wind and a midget pedaling the extra HP it needs.

What's even funnier is that a Civic Si with similar options (keep in mind you have to pay extra for ground effects, 18" wheels, cargo net, etc.), you're well into $24,000 territory. I think if I paid another 2 grand for my car and it was noticeably slower, I'd expect a nicer interior.

The civic is a nice ride...it's not a piece of ****. But the SS/SC is certainly better than some of these reviews make it out to be. Quite frankly I think my interior is really nice. I was never expecting a Benz-like interior. It's sporty, useful, and well laid-out.

They should be comparing just the cobalt ss to the Civic Si Its more in the same category, s/c should only be compared to srt-4 since thats pretty much the only other type of car in its class imo

this confirms the fact that too many stupid people get to post their opinions on the internet for other stupid people to read and agree with.

fear stupid people in large numbers...

The sixth gear is not for top speed runs but it is an overdrive gear. I wish this car did have a six speed because I would imagine fuel economy at 70mph would be greatly increased. I do have to agree that for everyday life a 6 speed would be nice. For performance purposes it serves no point at all. Another example is the Vette, it doesn't have a six speed for performance it has it for fuel economy.

I think this Karl guy makes ok arguements but the problem is they are all personal preferences and nothing really to do with the car. So he doesn't like plastic, so his hand is too fat to adjust the seat with the door open. Cry me a river. That's the problem with autojournalist today, they just look for ways to bring down American cars. If the car rides decent, handles good, and goes like stink. Who cares about luxary crap. Get a Benz if you want that stuff. This guy just doesn't get what the Cobalt is about. It's a mini muscle car and muscle cars were never about ergonomics, nice interiors, or any of that stuff, they were about fun and that's what this car is.

I bought the SC for the performance value above all!!! A nicer interior would be nice but all in all.... I don't want to pay more for the interior, my seats are comfy and supportive, the steering wheel is nice and healthy, and I am very happy with my 5 speed!!!!
To me this is the low buck muscle car of today and that's why I bought it!

do you think anyone cared when they bought a NOVA SS w/ a bench seat, and if I am correct>>> NO gauges aside from the speedo?

at least he knows a EXCELLENT drivetrain when he drives one!!!

That's what you have working for the magazines now. ****, or how Arnold says it, "Girly men". Their opinion means crap to me. The only opinion I care about is mine. I get people every once in a while saying "Why did you buy a cobalt? They are ugly!" or "they are slow". Because I like it. You may think it's slow, but I think it's pretty quick. Just remember, Honda can pay all the magazines they want, get all the good reviews they want, but out in the real life, we all know which car is the better performing one.

All this guy talks about is the Civic Si. Funny thing is i'm sure he wouldn't race an SS/SC in one.

i don't get it... do the editors even really drive those cars?
in my journey for a new car it drove all of the competition -> Civic Si, Lancer, Impreza, Mazda 3, Focus, etc.
Honestly, when it came down to it, the only car i found that could perform with the SS/SC was the impreza... and i'm not all about forking over another 8-10k for the AWD. (the SS/SC was 27k (CDN), the impreza was 35k (CDN)).

Maybe they should stop being a bunch of oldies, and drive the frickin' car like it was designed to be driven. There is a reason that GM made the SS/SC to withstand over 300hp... 'cause they new thats what would happen.... we perfrom these cars and drive the **** out of them....
Now try and do that to an Si... your looking at major internal mods so you don't snap the con-rods in two....
Whatever though... i buy cars based on my opinion, not some idiot who rides it like a bitch.

So, the SI is better because it has soft touch plastic that he will never touch. ..
