07 OEM Remote start on 05/06

So my father went to the local Chevy dealer today to ask them about getting me a remote start for my birthday. I had told him the 2007 Cobalts came with it as an option so he was going to go talk to the dealer about buying the OEM system from a 2007 and installing it on a 2006. The person in the service department said he wasn't sure if my car was prewired for the remote start system. If it wasn't prewired he estimated around $600 for system and install, with prewiring... $550. Sounds like a pretty hefty price for an OEM part and what should be more or less a plug and play install.

Does anyone have a Part Number for the 2007 Remote Start?

Am I getting ripped off for $550-600?

Hell yea, goto circuit city and get a python with remote start it will cost alot less and you will get an awesome alarm. $499 including installation.

Python 2-Way Security and Remote Start System with Responder Technology (PYTHON881XP)
DEI PYTHON881XP

5-channel Responder system: The interactive display on the Responder remote confirms all commands with easy to understand icons, plus text! It alerts users to security system triggers by beeping or vibrating when out of audible range of the siren.

Auxiliary outputs: Expand the system's capabilities for added convenience with three auxiliary outputs.

Remote start system: Keep your car cool on those hot summer days, and warm on those chilly winter mornings with this remote start system. You can start your vehicle with the push of a button, and you'll get confirmation back that it started, from up to one-quarter mile away.

Defroster output: Set the defroster to turn on when you start your vehicle to clear away ice and snow while your car is warming up.

Clone-SafeŽ Code-HoppingŽ: Random code alarms never send the same code twice, so a thief can't "grab" your code without you knowing it.

StingerŽ DoubleGuardŽ Shock Sensor: The dual-stage sensor can tell the difference between an accidental bump, or a strong impact. When it detects a small bump or brush, it gives off a small chirp. If it is bumped again it goes off in full alarm mode.

RevengerŽ six-tone siren: Six selectable tones let you customize your system.

FailsafeŽ Starter kill: An on-board relay disables the car starter when the security system is armed to prevent the ignition from being bypassed.

Convenience features: The parking lights can be programmed to flash when you lock/unlock your doors and the dome light can be set to turn on when you unlock your doors.

Includes: One 2-way responder transceiver

The 2007s use a different 32bit ECM than the 05-06, so it most likely wont be supported

Yeah, the ECM change might be screwing me. I'd like to go with a GM part to keep warrantied.

well to begin with if your car is an automatic trans, id go with an aftermarket one that way u can have remote start and actaully have a alarm. but if its manual trans then id go with the 07stock one, i think there is one brand of aftermarket that can be hooked into manual cars and i think the name is compu-star. most alarm/remote starters dont work for manual cars cuz of the clutch.

Compu-Star is an awesome aftermarket remote start/alarm system for manual transmissions. I also believe that DEI also makes one for the manual transmissions as well.

Guys, I just bought a bully dog remote start on ebay for my wifes taurus for 31.00 plus shipping, and i m going to install it my self. I ve wired in turbo timers and the such, so I cant see a remote start being that much more difficult with the right wiring diagrams. As far as remote start with a manual, there was a how-to on one of the DSM sites about putting a magnet on the shifter with something else so that when in neutral, the remote start worked, I ll have to look it up and post it up on here.

Hook it up to your e-brake so it works only when the e-brake is on.

There is a kit you can get so that any remote start will work on a manual trans. I got this when I bought a remote start for may dads truck. The way it works so that it won't start the car in an unsafe condition is this.
1 Park car leave engine running
2 set parking brake
3 push button on remote start (engine still running) Headlights flash
4 get out of car
5 close door
6 push button once more engine stops and ready to start again.
If door is opened system must be reset.
Seems like a long process but once you get used to it, it only take a couple extra seconds

If you DO have a manual, GM won't install the remote start on your car.

This is exactly how the remote starts work for manual transmissions. If you don't do this sequence, then the car won't start. It's actually really safe. I've installed enough of them.
