FYI, DRL's for the 2007 are low-beams, not turn signals
DRL's for the 2007 are low-beams - Remove Fuse to Disable
Just FYI, as I've been told the DRL's for 2005/06 are the turn signals. Yet another annoying change for 2007. So they're raised the price for 2007, changed the radio wireharness and antenna adapter, and changed the DRL's to lowbeams. So far the only good change I've seen is the DIC controls on the steering wheel.
Now our MPG will suffer because of the load put on the alternator by the lowbeams during the day. You can still disable them by turning off autolights completely, but its still annoying. Turn signals as the DRLs is way better.
This may affect HID and those HALO projectors too.

After looking at the 2007 fuse block diagram, the cobalt has seperate fuses for
LH LO BEAM
RH LO BEAM
LH HI BEAM
RH HI BEAM
PRK LAMP
and
DRL
Dang, every light has its own fuse, even the DRLs. So I went ahead and pulled the 10 AMP fuse for just the DRLs. I tested the lights, and all lights work with both the car off and on and I haven't gotten a check engine light or anything like that yet BUT it was too dark and the autolights were on. My flashlight wasn't bright enough to convince the computer it was daylight.
I will find out tomorrow, when the DRLs try to kick in, if it generates error message or trouble light at all.

It wont effect a conversion like the Halo kits because you do not use the high beam wire at all . If the 2007 DRL's were low voltage to the low beams , then youd be in trouble . For a full on real HID conversion I dunno if it would effect it or not . Did u use the high beam wire to power anything in your conversion Merc ?

I'm pretty sure the DRL's ARE running the lowbeams. I'm sure its just the standard 12V though.
Ok, I'm speechless. Removing the 10AMP fuse for the DRLs completely disables them with no ill effects. No Check Engine light, no messages on the DIC. All lights work, the parking lights, turn lights, and both high and low beams. Autolights work fine as well.
I've never seen a GM vehicle with DRLs this easy to disable.
Having had other GM vehicles with DRLs, you either had to modify a relay, remove a relay, or jumper some contacts/pins. And then you would get a check engine light, or one of your hi-beams would not work etc...

Damn that IS amazing , lol who woulda though . U typically gotta trick the BCM on the older GM's and they do set a code and in the case of my friends 02 Grand Am GT , the service light in the cluster came on too .
Nice discovery for the 07 guys .

Nice!! Easy and simple! It was pretty much the same in my 2003 Toyota Matrix. Now we all know the Japanese are known for complicated cars, but in my Matrix all I had to do was cut one wire on some module underneath the steering column and no more DRL's. This is even EASIER though! No cutting....just pull one fuse and done! Time to go get some HID's!!!
This is good info, especially for us Canadians, where the DRLs are forced upon us. They will not turn off unless the e-brake is up, even if you try to turn off the autolights. Now I wouldn't mind the DRLs if they still used the turn signals, I think those have always looked pretty good. Unfortunately, I think it's safe to say converting to a different DRL system is practically impossible...
Show me proof that an 05 or an 06 has a fuse labeled DRL in the fuse box under the hood then, cause in every other discussion about DRLs usually in relation to HIDs it's been a well known and accepted deal that the DRL fuse was introduced in 2007 models because of the switch from using the turn signals to the low beams at a lower voltage.
Cordia's right... unless you want to rig up a system with a bunch of wires and 4 relays. I did it on my old Cavy and it's a pain in the ass. OR you could just run your own wires to the parking lamps up front, but that won't really be bright enough for DRL's.
