Fred Bean Don't know ****!

Original Response when asked which bumper was which...

gculley@fredbeans.com wrote:

Steven, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. All SS bumpers are the same. So you have lost me here. Gene.

My Response to his email
That's actually incorrect. On Cobalt models using the 2.0L Supercharged motor, the appearance or body kit contains a lip kit, these front and rear bumpers are pre cut, so if you do not have the lip the holes remain exposed. On Cobalt models using the 2.4L motor, the appearance or body kit does not contain a lip kit and no holes are drilled or cut into the bumper.

Here is a picture of both to show the difference.

2.4L

2.0L Supercharged

So I suppose in your response, yes the two bumpers look the same, but one should have slits cut into the bumper to accomidate for the ss/sc lip kit.

I was looking on fred bean for a new 2.4L Front bumper and they have them listed as the SS and the Sport... So i emailed him asking which bumper was which, and thats when he replied that all SS bumpers are the same.

Nevermind, stupid post i guess.

2.0 & 2.4 SS front bumpers are the SAME!!!!!!!!

add the bottom lip to 2.4 bumper to make it FULL 2.0 front bumper

Yeah but you'd need to cut holes in the 2.4 bumper for the lip to fit. They are 2 completely different parts with different part #'s

Im just curious. Are all the bumpers interchangable. I recently got into a bit of a fender bender and my stock bumper is cracked and skuffed a little and I was thinking about going with a LT or SS bumper on my LS if it would work. Anyone know?

No i made the post, and I made it to find out an answer. I'm not a person that takes internet "flaming" as an insult because it doesn't mean anything.

Everyone appearntly has mixed signals. Yes it's different, no it's not. So who the hell is right?

it's entirely possible that SOME are different.

looking at the underside of mine, it looks like a lip would install with little to no modification. at the most, drilling a few small screw holes.

Ok heres your definitive answer. There are 6 different Cobalt front ends, below is the list.
We'll start at the base model and work our way up.

1.#19120183 Cobalt LT base model
2.#19120182 Cobalt LT trim level 1
3.#19120179 Cobalt LS
4.#19120181 Cobalt LS w/fog lights
5.#12336074 Cobalt SS levels 1 & 2
6.#19120184 Cobalt SS supercharged

The non SC cars DO HAVE a completely different front end.
The SC cars have 12 retainers part#22688427 that hold the fascia extension part#12336084 to the front fascia. The extension mounts though 12 holes in the fascia that are pre-cut from the factory.

In short they are two completely different front ends. I hope this helps you.

If you ever need help with part #'s just PM me. I work at a Chevy dealership in the parts department and have been selling parts for about 15 years now. And if I can't find something I have 10 other guys here at work with me all with years and years of parts experence so between all of us I'm sure we can help you.

That goes for anyone out there, if you need any parts help just PM me and I'll be glad to help you.

Sure the base Cobalts front end is all a solid piece with color matched grills that are molded on. A Cobalt level 1 trim has seperate black grill parts.
