07 Cobalt SS SLOWER than 06

Just found out that the 2007 Cobalt SS is indeed slower than the the 2006. It may have ("173hp") and the 2006 having 171hp BUT our new 07 Cobalt weighs just under 3000 pounds at 2991 while the 2006 weighing in at 2815. Good news for me!

You need to get the car weighed to see what it is exactly. When GM ships them they are each weighed so they can tell the rail road how much it is exactly. Those door stickers are not exact but an approx. weight. Go to a public scale and get it checked to see what it really is. Like I said my cars exact weight is 2850 as weighed by the scale house at GM when it was shipped.

Don't go by an approx. weight get the exact.

Use the weight on the door. Its calculated with a full tank of gas and 3 passengers.

Go by calculated weight over the exact weight? Thats like saying go by the calculated 1/4
mile over the exact 1/4 mile if you'd run the car. That makes no sence.

Forgot some info, this is curb weight manual transmission which means auto could be more (usually just a tad). Any thoughts on what might've done this? New engine part that makes the more HP is my thought but an extra 150+ pounds? Not sure.

yeah, i don't think that the car GAINED 150 pounds. from what i understand, they're just about identical in times. the 07 has a revised le5 that has different shaped pistons to be quieter and no oil cooler, i think.

Not sure about the pistons but mine sure doesn't have an oil cooler thats for sure! I wish it did!

If it gained any weight I'd look toward sound deadening materials as being the cause.

well, i am going on the solstice, i was under the impression that ALL pre 07 LE5s have a oil cooler that passes through the rad. if not, the tap spots must be there.

It look like the 2.4 in 2006 did have an oil cooler, for both the Cobalt and the Solstice. But in 2007 neither one does, or at least not according to my parts computer here at work.
Though the 2.0 turbo engine in the Solstice DOES have the VVT setup on it. So it looks like that thing is turboed with VVT and direct injection too! Thats a bad ass little engine!

It sounds to me like someone mixed up the cobalt ss/sc weight with the cobalt ss weight. There is no way that the cobalt ss/sc weighs 2991, and just magically by coincidence the 2007 cobalt ss now weighs the exact same amount.

It seemed to be a mid-year change; my 2006 2.4 was built in May and it doesn't have a cooler.

Raced it. Mine's Faster. Same specs no sunroof, cloth, full tank, both SS/NA, etc. Same exact car except for year and color. We even took everything out of the cars just to see if this was true or not (we really wanted to know). Don't know if it was a driver issue but the person who was driving has been driving stick 10 months longer than I have, but I am in a racing family so I dunno. Wooped his ass tho.

Sorry the carr weighs the same as an 06. There were no changes that could have increased weight that much. Typo----US site sucks for mistakes.

I just checked GM Canadas site...weights are the same for 07 as they wee for 06.

And FYI--2.4L SS cars in Canada come loaded up more then they do in the US.

I do believe that the 2006's were also advertised to have 173hp also, not 171hp....
