I'd be game - don't work too many weekends during the winter...

vtecduster
11-14-2006, 12:27 PM
hey chevboy, or should I say chevgirl, just search online at like tirerack.com, discounttire.com, etc, and they will show you hundreds of rims that fit that ride.

I hear this saturday is gonna be nice outside, but my ride will be at the shop getting stage 2 put on. Sunday work for anyone, like noon or 1pm? Weather is supposed to be nice too. I'm sure the vikes play then, but they friggen suck anyway...

vtecduster

yea those are the next on the list, can't decide if I want touring or the performance gmpp exhaust. I hear the cobalt addiction downpipes are really good too. Eventually want to get a 2.7 and 60lb injectors, but I still have about a year of warranty left.

So what's the deal? Anyone down for sunday, or should we see how the weather thanksgiving weekend is? I have that friday after off and I'm sure others do too...

Alright boys and girls, I'll make the call here. Let me know if you think there is a better location.

Put up a post if you will be there and I'll add you to the list. Location will be at the park and ride parking lot on the NE corner of the highway 610 and Noble intersection (Brooklyn Park). Since the Vikes suck, I'm going to put a time of 2pm. The weather is supposed to be cloudless and in the 40's, about as good as it gets this time of year. I know we have a few peeps from the south metro, so if there's a more central location, put up a post and we'll discuss.

Please show up if you say you are going to come, hope you can make it poolboyz. I will be there.

I say let's scrap it. Besides, my car won't be ready until monday cuz the retards at the dealership didn't get the codes to reflash my computer on friday. It's gonna sit there till monday morning cuz you can't drive it with stage 2 hardware and no ecu flash.

rallyracer
11-18-2006, 07:54 PM
which dealer are you having do your stage2?

Be sure to bring a copy of this printout with the updated re-flash numbers -

http://cobaltss.net/forums/showthread.php?p=511819#post511819

I'm glad i did, otherwise my dealer/service dept/tech knew NOTHING of what I was talking about. The tech that was working on it was cool about it, it did take him some to download the flash but it was worth the wait and persistence of showing them the first page of that thread with the pic (make sure you use the corresponding year pic). GM does not just send all dealers the updates, they have to find them as they service vehicles.

Mike06cobalt
11-20-2006, 02:43 PM
Just a FYI for you stage II peeps in MN. There is some sort of flaw in the reflash that makes your old rev limit 6.5k go into effect instead of the 7k one. It's happened about 4 times for me, but that was months ago. Haven't had a problems recently. I contacted GM about it and said there are no plans for a fix :cussing: Anyways, the point is if you experience anything like this please contact them as well and mention that you know of others with a similar problem. I'm not very active on this forum so if you need help send an email. mike.menne@gmail.com

As far as meetings go, I'd be more apt to meet downtown for drinks or something rather than the normal park n ride thing. Especially with winter coming. IF any of you are looking to get exaust or headers n stuff done and would like to hear what a GM manifold/magniflow exhaust setup sounds like send me an email as well.

I looked for dealers with knowledge of SII and there were none. This was also last summer. I asked almost everyone in the state so maybe they are just now getting the hint that people want this and are getting preped for it.

I couldn't believe that in all the years before SS Cobalts with the Monte Carlo SS that they don't have info on how to service/upgrade superchargers. Or the tools, none of them seemed to have a press to remove the stock pulley. People have said (on the forum) that a standard pulley remover will work, but I now have a broken one to prove otherwise.

I got mine installed for 2.5 hrs of labor. 350 on the nuts all said and done. I got the kit from crateenginedepot for 550, best price anywhere. 900 bucks for 40whp, i'll take it.

They told me it would be 4 to 5 hours and I told them to blow it out their ass. He came back from his manager 30 seconds later and said 2.5. Probably only took them an hour.

$350 for 2.5 hours and just the stage2? The Cities are spendy...

hey porter... where in the heck did you get all that installed for that price???

portergraph
11-26-2006, 10:14 AM
hey Hoffa,

Actually, I went to Underdahl's got a quote ahead of time (straight out of their service book) and made them stick to it - it actually took them from 8:30am - 4pm (it was their first time.... isn't that special?) but I went in and sure enough, only charged for 4 hours... I went for a drive with the tech and parked in front so I had my keys - if they would've told me more, I would've just drove away and told them I'd only pay for 4 hours - not my fault its their first time - THEY are supposed to be the "certified GM techs" and if GM says 2 hours for Stg2, 1 hour for manifold & 1 hour for exhaust... then that's all I'm paying.

So, for anyone else out there - I say get a quote and get a copy of that quote. (got all stuff from Crate engine Depot also, Tom's the $hit)

11-27-2006, 02:06 PM

Some of you guys better join me on a car tour this Sunday, Dec 10th.

A recent rain storm has cleared most of the sand from our favorite roads between Pepin and Fountain City, WI and the forecast looks clear through the weekend. If you liked River Road and County S up by St. Croix Falls, you will LOVE the “driftless” area of western Wisconsin. These are truly some of the best and yet most deserted driving roads in the nation...no REALLY! We'll make a couple pit stops along the route, then have lunch at Hansen's Hold Up (cash or check only) near Fountain City, WI before winding and twisting our way back on equally amazing roads toward the Cities. If you stay with us for the whole tour, you will probably get back to 494 at about 6:00pm, and you will put about 350 lateral-G-filled miles on your car, so be ready to DRIVE! People who need to get back earlier are of course welcome to bail out as they see fit.

More info at this link for now (read post #10).

I using the PZero Neros - they seem to do alright - when I got the car, it had a brand new one up front and 3 Rossos. Front left was basically bald and then I somehow got a damn nail in the sidewall of the back right, so I just got all Neros. They're all-season tires, unlike the Rossos which are summer tires and they're like $125/pc. TireRack has some decent prices even with the shipping...

Regarding the run, I'm 90% SURE I'll be there - gotta hash things out with the wifey... my son would love to see all the sports cars. He's 9, and can recognize more vehicles than me!! Oh yea, I posted the info on the WI thread as well - trying to get a good showing of the balt...

hey guys whats goin on? saw a couple ss's today just wondering if that was anyone on here. first one was a silver ss/sc with pretty dark tints and looked like it may have had an exhaust or at least a muffler. saw that one in the riverdale area of coon rapids. the second ive actually seen a few times on the street i live (69th ave in fridley). that one was black and appeared to be fairly stock with all the badges still. just wonderin cuz there seems to be quite a large population in the twin cities!

2 hours or so, depending on what you take. i'll email with directions. its actually very easy to get here

portergraph
01-30-2007, 11:26 AM
yea Vtec - you're looking at 2 hours whether you take 52 to I90 or if you take 55 to Hastings and get on 61 and follow the river all the way down. The only thing with 61 is you're bound to get stuck behind some birdwatchers between Red Wing and Wabasha, plus its only 2 lanes... but once get past Wabasha, 4 lanes & 65+ all the way to Wino-land...

kat_01
01-31-2007, 02:29 AM
i used to drive between the cities and wsu every weekend when i went to school there. i found it was easier to take 52 through rochester to i-90. it may not necessarily be the shortest route, but there were a lot less small towns and getting stuck behind the one person doing 50 mph on 61. i remember it was hard to pass on 61 sometimes. plus you can really cruise on i-90 cause there is very little down there, flat and straight.

Well I have the GMPP Sport exhaust and I must say it’s a lot louder than stock. While cruising at 70-80mph on the HWY I can still hear it roaring in the car. I love to rev the engine a lot now cuz it just sounds so much aggressive.

so with the exhausts, there really is no gain or flow difference?? basically same everything just one is a few hundred dollars more or does corsa use better materials and all that other brew-ha-ha to justify the price.

There is a big improvement when you step up to GMPP and other aftermarket exhaust systems. Exhaust and upgrading your supercharger are the probably the biggest bang for your buck improvements.

I have Magnaflow catback and GMPP manifold. I'm thinking I'll add a Magnaflow cat this summer. The sound is the biggest difference between brands I think. There are others such as bigger pipes which gives better flow. I think GMPP is 1.75" and Magna is 2" in diameter???

Corsa will sound more raspy, the GMPP is closer to stock, and the Magna is somewhat in between with a little more emphasis on a deeper growl tone. You will get HP out of it, much more notablyif you do full exhaust. You will also notice your car reving less restrictively. The sound will change over time too, mine developed a very small backfire when spooling down the revs. I hate exhaust that backfires, but I actually like this because its very subtle.

I'd offer to have you hear, but its too friking cold and my pipes need some sealing work....I need to tighten up some rattles that come and go...and I have door dings.... Once it warms up a bit I'd be willing if you want to hear.

i believe magnaflow uses 2.5" piping and the GMPP is 2.25". There is a thread somewhere on here where a guy dyno'd a bone stock ss/sc and then with the gmpp. He got something like 10 wtq and 12whp out of it. I dynod my car in it's current setup, and will get around to doing one with the exhaust on there to show stage 2 gains with it.

lol.. what i meant was is there a difference in gains and flow between the corsa and the gmpp, not with aftermarket vs stock.

im not thaaaaat new to this game

im going to try to get a new header, downpipe and an exhaust at the same time so i can get it all on in one nice set up, im just having troubles on which system to get, gmpp or corsa.

I mean I know you have to but was it too cold for you to do it?

Haven't adjusted them yet - to adjust, there's four screws behind the bulb... at first glance by looking at the garage wall, the lights appeared to be level & same height... but that's 3 feet away. Had some friends over last night which prevented me from backing out and aiming them at the garage door.

Keeping the fingers crossed that no adjustments will be needed - I know, wishful thinking...

One thing I did notice after install, one of the LEDs isn't set where its supposed to be. (don't know if it was that way before install or not - hard to see with all the chrome) Its there and it turns on, but is 1 inch back. I must have loosened it up while I was getting the light in. Gonna have to take the light out anyways to get at it, but for now - I'm not too worried. They're in and I'm happy.

Maybe I'll do a little write up/how to about the wire splicing for LEDs and halos - its not hard at all, but I know the how-to that's posted for installing them - isn't as clear as it could be and i saw some people were questioning it.

VR - Go to the how-to and where it mentions "remove this clip" - that's where you'll want to completely disconnect the wiring and take it inside (unless you got a heated garage) and do the splicing. Its much easier to see the wires and to work with. You'll need a total of 4 pairs of insulated connectors. 2 per light.

My buddy thinks I'm a retard for trading away my big wing, but he's a hater. It's definitely a challenge with these rosso's. Thankfully I have a clutch to control the torque...an automatic would be miserable with these tires. It's pick your poison in MN unless you can afford 2 sets of tires. Buy good winter tires and yer spinnin em all summer, get good summer tires and yer spinnen em all winter. Hopefully we can find a good middle ground. I used to have the Kumho Ecsta's on my RWD Mustang, and those didn't do too bad in the winter.

Hey PBzo2, how much wear have you seen so far on the rosso's? I'm at 12k miles now and will be lucky to get these tires thru the fall...

I only have about 4500 miles on my tires and no matter what Im using them untill next winter. I'll drive the hell outta them this year an maybe pick up a set of winter only tires and wheels and then just keep a set of summer only tires on the stock wheels.

I picked my sportlines up from another member off the site - for those of you looking for some springs, keep an eye out on the Parts classifieds - there's some pretty good deals once in a while... I'm looking for some nice rims too, but the biggest problem is I can't find anyone to put tires on an 18" rim around here. (Well, I did, but they chipped one of my rims, but I should've known better) There's a nice set of 20's on here but no tires, but I like the look of the Casino's...

you're gonna pay out the ass for 20" tires. Any clue how much those 20's weigh? ...or do you even give a crap?

rallyracer
02-17-2007, 11:14 AM
I like the look of 20's on the balt but the largest ill ever go is 19's, As for springs im torn between the SSC and the Sportlines. The SSC are like $100 less then the Sportlines and still give it almost the same look.

Fayzer has dissappeared, I've messaged him on myspace many times and never heard anything back. Its possible that he bought a Jeep and Bike and got rid of the balt but im not 100% sure on that.

He could at least message us back or something. Oh well, maybe he moved on. Eibachs are the best (from what people have said on here) Some people have Tenzo's but I'll fork out the extra $$$ for eibachs

portergraph
02-17-2007, 02:18 PM
yea - I won't be getting any 20's, but I do like how they look... if I were to get some new wheels, it'd be a rim/tire package deal. I'm not to worried about weight as I'm not gonna be going to any tracks anytime soon, but the wheels better look friggin sweet - ya know?!

Biggest I'd go would probably be 19" as well - but for now, I'll stick with the stockers - perhaps paint them as they've had chips since I've gotten the balt

I am contemplating some tint too... a mirrored-look would be nice with the silver

You know it might have been, I was driving all over hell this weekend so I don't really remember too well. I have super dark windows, no badges except chevy symbols, and lowered if that helps.

Did the Sportline lower the car at all ? Do you think there would be any clearance problems with , say, 235's ? Thanks

It lowered the car very noticibly, the profile is much better. I don't know why its not this height straight from the factory as I think its way too high stock.

What are stock tires? 215? I would assume there would be plenty of room as I'm not strapped what so ever, but don't take my word for it.

Hey Vtech, when did you get your Stage II? And is your exhaust broke in yet? We should run each other some day.

yea shops around here are charging anywhere from 400 to 480 around here for install and balancing its a big rip off IMO.. get the rite tools and rent a spring compressor from checker and return it within 48 hours and its free of charge and all u have to do after is just pay about 65$ to get the fronts aligned

My stage 2 has been in since november and the exhaust is definitely broken in now. LOL I was getting worried for a tick there cuz it was vibrating my whole friggen car for a couple days after the install.

I'll run ya some time. I raced an M3 the other day from 60 to 100 and we were nose and nose the whole way, the second race i got on the gas a bit early and held a half car the whole time. Our cars just LOVE this cold air.

so i wake up today feeling great. i go walk the dog early, i clean my kitchen and its beautiful outside so i decide to go wash the balt (doesn't help that i'm leavin town tomorrow to see a friend who happens to be gorgeous and she loves my car ;) )

so i go to the car wash and proceed to start cleanin her up. and this isn't just some quick diddy, i'm taking my time. you know when you wake up in the morning next to that special someone and you just look at them, caress them, hold them, be attentive to them and kiss them when they wake up?? thats how i was with my baby today (i was there for a hour and a half). screw the brush, all by hand and a mit. slowly taking my time, getting every curve, every small crack. rinse, wax... rinse, wax... rinse, wax (apparently dropping 2.50 in the machine gives you like 20 minutes  ).

i drive her out of the bay and proceed to start drying her off. slowly wiping her down, making sure i get every water spot off the body. looking up as people are slowing down to check out the car (cuz i'm pretty sure it wasn't me.... ) making myself feel better anyways cuz hey.. people think i have an awesome vehicle. i still felt good even when a little shit in a toyota drove past and starting reving his engine.

so after spending a hour and a half at the car wash, i drive home. i get out of the car and take a nice loooong look. bright victory red blazing in the sunlight in all her glory. thats when i realized, i am in love with my car. my car is hot, comfortable and i can bang the shit out of her all day long and she loves every minute of it.

seriously though, i really did take like 5 minutes and just stared at my car today...

i can't wait to drive to work :twothumbs

I got GMPP Touring exhaust (along w/Stg2 & GMPP exhaust manifold) from Crate Engine Depot - talk w/Tom - ordered on a Friday afternoon, got it on Monday - good guy, easy to work with - my 2 cents...

I got the GMP Performance from CED when they had a group buy going on and got it in like 2-3 days. Ordered tues/wed, had it fri, installed sat. I'm think the CA header and XTC 2.5" DP w/Cat (even though there's no inspection in MN, I don't want it loud as hell).

And now since I'm holding off on rims til I actually have money for them, I'll take $300 that I was going to put towards rims, and buy more than likely an Escort 8500. I like to go fast sometimes, even in my 2.2! lol.

would 3'' piping make that much difference anyways??

lastly... how did you all get your system(s) installed?? i'm figuring that i'm going to have to go in for this one and would like to know approximately how much more money i need to set aside.

I wasn't up to par/had the right tools to get my car jacked up (properly) so I had it installed (GMPP Exhaust) at the Midas off of Douglas drive in Crystal. It was $90 after tax and everything.

I'm gonna try to do my Header/DP with some help, but I might need to take it in.

I believe the GMP exhaust (Touring and Performance) are both 2.25. If you get the CA header and mate it up with a 2.5 XTC DP it should bolt up to GMP exhaust. (I PM'd Kenny about this; CA Owner, and he said it would all bolt up fine to a 2.2. And since all balts are idealy the same, it would work for all!

also, Hot Import Nights is in Chi town that weekend. not that i really care... i'm more interested in just us balts and ions but hey... its something else too if it peaks your interest.

hey guys. i've been in contact with some of the WI boys about the CED open house meet on the 31st, seeing if we can't all meet up on the drive down and all go in together.

I'd like to go but I have family from outta state coming to stay over that weekend, so I'll be busy with that :(

I dont think any of us have a laser blue balt but I could be wrong.

chevboy28 your sig is way huge, you may wana make it a lil smaller before a mod removes it.

I did it on my last car. I thought it was going to be MUCH harder than it was. Your first step will most likely be the piece behind the handle that opens the door. I would wait until summer when the plastic is more malleable. Get a medium size flat head, some patience, and you'll be surprised how easily it comes apart. All of the wiring should have clips that remove...unlike part of the decklid

Not to sound like an ass here, but searching the DIY/How To section will yield more results.

they didn't have anything in the how to section. anything that required that the door panel be taken off was stated as "take door panel off".

sorry... i would have liked something more than that to go off of, which is why i came to you guys :)

Sorry hoffa, didn't know you checked. Hmm..............I can't really help you as I have only had people at best buy (NEVER GO THERE, the one in Brooklyn Park, they'll mess you shit up) do it as you can see, they screwed my colorado up and the armrest on the door wouldn't stay down because they assholes broke the plastic tabs and TRIED to glue them back on.

I've never had a problem with Ultimate Electronics on the other hand. It's just a matter if you want to pay for it and get it done right, or attempt it yourself and rick breaking something (well I guess you would risk that as well if taken to the profs.. Since it is your first time though, I'd say take it to the profs..
