OK. I have a few issues to clear up.

First of all, my first question is in the name of the thread. Does anyone know if the 05 cobalts can swap an 07 PCM without too much effort?

Secondly , does anyone know if the rumor that I've heard is true : HP Tuners has tunning for 2007 2.2L BaseModel Cobalts?!

Lastly, if this IS true, has anyone taken advantage of this yet?

Thanks.

No, the ECM's are not interchangable.

Yes, HP Tuner's can support the new E37 ECM in the 2007 model year.

No, nobody has done the swap, because it can't be done.

Do you know the reasons y it can't be done or is it pretty much because it would be like plugging a mac hard drive into a windows machine? if u know what I mean by that

There are two reasons that I was told. First, different network architecture in the two cars. If you put an E37 into an 05-06, it just wouldn't be able to talk to it. Second, the L61 engine recieved some significant changes in the 2007 year. The 05-06 engines don't send the same information to the ECM.

Dammit! For F*ck sakes why the hell can't someone just support our damn ECU!

I'm getting pretty sick and tired of my car being the odd one out!

read up on aeromotive's digital fmu. 2.2 ions have used it with prochargers and had great results. in a nutshell you install an inline fuel pump that is controled only by the dfmu that forces more fuel through to the injectors. look up speed mafia. they have kits for the ion out already. you can build a custom turbo setup for cheaper then their procharger kits are. I priced mine out for about 1800.

UMI Racing makes a full standalone that will communicate with the BCM and also support the ETC, for the same price. I've never used it, so I don't know how advanced the software for it is, but being a standalone, it has to support close to what HPT does. The price is comparible to other standalone EMS systems available.

the main reason is the ignition system in the car. GM went away from compression sense because its often inaccurate and has caused a lot of headahces and problems.

what hp gains are expected for the new 07 base cobalts for new hptuners?

it's not about the gain of the tuning itself, it's about the ability to add bigger power adders and then tune for them.

so the tuning capabilities dont do anything if you just have bolt ons like intake, exhaust. what about having new cams and springs and tuning it to run premiem fuel? or just premiem fuel alone?

HP Tuners would be exactly what you need for some new cams. Tuning to run premium fuel wouldn't do you any good. 87 Octane is more the stable enough for the compression of the L61. Now if you got different cams that could benefit from a more advanced spark, then premium fuel "might" give you a little.

You'd be able to gain a little bit of horsepower from just bolt ons with tuning, but nothing big. But it would allow you to add more radical cams. Springs won't matter.

i know HPtuners isnt that enthusiastic on getting the L61 done. but does anyone know if there even gonna do it period? seems like they are just giving up.

Yes they are, I've gotten word they are along with several others. The thing with HP is theres ONE person to crack the modules for each car they support.

At last I knew they said by summer, it might be later now, might be earlier.

And we've not had to wait as long as many cars have, so be happy.

really i didnt know that. thanks rallyyellow06. so what kinds of engine mods would benefit most to gain hp from hptuners on these 2.2's cause i know the supercharged versions add fuel and stuff and gain a lot. but they have superchargers so thats a whole different ball game of hp gains.

im looking forward to the hptuners. hopefully they will give good gains with the right engine mods.
