ok before you guys call b.s. so quickly know what your talking about. Thats Chris White w/ Vector Motorsports same guys who did the 2.4 tunes and have worked on a ton of GM vechicles. I believe they do the turbo tuning for the hahn's solstice turbo kits and mostly likely the 2.4 cobalts too. They get access to stuff not alot of people can get their hands on.
Honestly, I don't know man. I personally wouldn't trust a "mail in tune" even if it was available. Tuning is purposely done for that specific setup. How do they know how much fuel or what fuel tables to go by or what ignition timing to give you? Each engine is different, each setup is different. Real time tuning is the way to go so I say just be patient and wait till HP Tuners comes out.
But thats me.
But thats me.

no mean to hijack, but what exactly makes a standalone non street legal? The ECM Controls the engine, but also ties into air bags, removing airbags is not illegal. so why isn't a standalone street legal? The reason im asking is because ive been seriously considering this route. I can live without a nice street idle.

i think it has to do with inspection, the ECM contains the VIN number, but i dont know what the standalones contain or don't contain
alright. I figure due to emissions failiure is why most people dont go this route. But i mean, technicly speaking, you could just lean out the mixture to a safe point and you could pass emissions no problem. Anyone else with some more info?
From talking to Fred @ SMG, he was basically saying as long as the standalone is controlling the Engine Controls and your mixture isn't too rich during emissions testing, you should pass. The problem is when you have nothing going to your body control module, like your air-bags and things of that nature where you would run into issues.
well lets say for argument that we have a 2.2L Base model Cobalt/Pursuit. It has airbags and power locks but thats it. No ABS, Traction control, Stabilaty Control, or any kind of driver assist. The transmission is also a manual not an auto. By adding a SAFMS, the air bags and door locks and driver comforts such as A/C, Cruise, Driver Information Center and Security system are all disabled. Generaly speaking, these systems do no make the car street legal, they make it safer/more comfortable. The vehicle would still run and pass standerdized provincial saftey testing (i don't know about US rules on safeties but im sure thier close to being the same as ours). Which brings me to belive that SAFMS are street LEGAL, its just all these years people belived diffrently because they disabled such systems as airbags and TRAC-Control. just my 2cents
what about a "piggy back" system that would work in conjuction with your stock ecu keeping all that safty crap in order but still being able to tune you engine??? Is there such thing or could it be made, Ide buy one!
Piggy back systems wouldn't work properly on your vehicle, so I wouldn't even think about that.
