Will your next car be a Cobalt SS/SC, or never again?
Will your next car be a Cobalt SS/SC, or never again?
For those who already own a Cobalt SS/SC....
Assuming GM reasonably and incrementally improves the Cobalt...nothing fancy, just to keep tabs with the competition....would you get it again? Buy the same car as before, only a newer model? Its a test...just how much do you like it...would you buy it twice?
I have the opportunity to pick up a Cobalt SS/SC with the G85 package for $20000 new. Its a 2006 model, however. They offered me a good trade in value for my truck...a fantastic 2002 Avalanche...which I really like...which is why I haven't jumped at the deal...
After all incentives are said and done...my out of pocket expenses for the car would probably be....around $500. Thats about right, I would have a new Cobalt SS/SC with about 300 miles on it for under $500. Paid off.
Any opinions as to what I should do...? The truck is no sports car...but sometimes is SO useful...still, most of the time, I don't need it as a truck...

theres nothing like a truck. but im not a big fan of the avalanches, so for me, the decision is easy. I've had my cobalt for about 3 months, and have put just about 3500 miles on it with absolutly 0 problems. If GM improved the cobalt ss/sc line I wouldnt trade in and get it. I like the one I have, it has a lot of potential.
but like i said, theres nothing like a truck. The cobalt is small, fairly roomy for what it is, but its no truck.

I will probably never buy the same car twice (any car)......having said that no, I would buy something else. UNLESS GM turn into some amazing quality automaker and used an awesome 4 cyclinder turbo engine with a super AWD setup that can compete with audi....than ya id buy the SS again.
For you, since you dont use your truck as a truck and it will only cost $500 HELL YA get the SS!!

I just got stuck in the snow, again bigtime, and it took me 2 hours to get out... I'm not a truck guy, so I eventually want to look into a WRX.
The resale value on any GM product leave one thing to be desired, a much higher resale value.
The fit and finish are not befitting of a 30,000 dollar car, and although I haven't been stranded, superchargers making grinding noises which then suddenly dissapear tells me that after my warranty and lease is up... this is a car that I don't want to buy out.
I really enjoy how lightning quick this car is, and I've had tons of fun in the summertime with it, But I recently test drove a new WRX and found a car that gripped in a half a foot of snow... didn't get stuck or squirelly, and didn't spin it's tires through the intersection to the next red light. It stayed on course and I could plant the throttle and it still would grip.
That is an all season, Canadian climate built car. And pretty quick to boot.
Oh, and it came with heated sport bucket seats, standard. It also comes with a Block Heater (oh my goodness, and my 30,000 Cobalt didn't????)
It would make too much sense for a North American automaker to build an all wheel drive, small econonmy car. (Don't think to tell me the Dodge Caliber is a car.) It had to come out of Japan where the climate is mild, and indicative to where the Cobalt should excel best.
Maybe Canada should have it's own automaker, we'll build what's right for the snow belt, an AWD 4 banger with fuel economy, and a turbo model for us enthusiasts.
Sure, I'm being a bit difficult, and the WRX is a little more money, but you get so much more for it, and the best part for me is, I have piece of mind that I'm not going to get bloody stuck in a half a foot of snow.
Okay, I'm done ranting.

The question isnt really a how much you like your car but more of what kind of person are you. What i mean is I would rather try something new then the same thing forever, thats how ya get stuck in a rut. lol
But if your asking if i love the car for all its worth, then yes
personally the avalanche is like 1/4 a truck that bed is so damn small. Although the interior is nice, its the exterior that makes a truck. I went from truck to this car, and I cant sleep at night the past month cause its in my garage. So ya dude go get your balt in my opinion. A
my SS/SC is alot of fun, but its very expensive to own and mod (not a fan of premium fuel, 6qt full synthetic oil changes that cost over $30 bucks), not very easy or comfortable to drive, and has had alot of reliability issues. I dont think i would buy it again since there are other vehicles coming out now i'd rather buy that werent available a year ago.
bottom line: its alot of fun with a very decent sticker price, if you dont mind these negative aspects.

I like everything about my Cobalt. I chose it as a reliable daily driver, so I went with the automatic tranny (I don't need another 5-speed for a daily driver). After reading all the problems people have with the SS/SC clutch, etc, I'm extra glad I have the automatic.
The last car I bought brand-new I kept for 13 years, and I'll probably do the same with this one. Will they still offer the Cobalt in 10, 13 or more years? Who knows.

Ummmm, this has been one of the cheapest cars to mod that I have ever owned.
If there were'nt a new Camaro coming I would definately purchase another new cobalt SS . Ive been a F-body guy all my life and didnt really expect to like the SS as much as I do . For the economy , performance , handling and comfort for the money ....its a awesome little package . Ive had mine about a year and 6 months , with 43,000 miles ...and Im just as happy as the day I drove home in it . When I buy my 09 Camaro , I have no intentions of sell the Cobalt
I would never buy the same "fun" car twice no matter how good it is. Family cars might be a different story.
For me it all depends on where I am and what my life is like in three or so years when I'm ready for a new car. If I'm doing the family thing I'm probably going to be looking at a Mercedes C class. If I'm still single or don't look like marriage is immenent then I'm going to be looking for something in the ludicris department. Probably a Viper or a nice 6-7 year old V8 Ferrari. Then I would use the Cobalt as my daily driver which would make for a really interesting garage. lol

If you like sports car and stuff like that, the cobalt for 500$ is a really cheap way to get into it. Oh and modds are relatively inexpensive!!
Will I buy another balt, uummm maybe. I Love the car, but I would like to get a cheap new winter car (cobalt, aveo, accent(the new hatch)). And my other car would be a viper/Z06 or something along those lines.... But if fortunes dont work out as planned, sure another SS/SC or then SS/T would be awesome as a all season car.

generally speaking, people want to grow in the auto market. as much as i like my cobalt, i cant see my next car being another one, or even in the same class. i want to move up in the car food chain so my next car needs to be better. not neccesarily faster, but overall a better car. im actually hoping to get a 335i but only time will tell. for me, speed isnt everything, but it definitely is an important aspect that i will consider until im well into my 70's when i want to enjoy cruising in whatever car i will own.
yeah people change and their needs/what they want does aswell. For me at the moment, I am looking for the fastest car with warranty for under 30000 CND. IMO i got it!! Lovin' everyday of it!

Here is my advice
1) Do NOT pay for a truck if you do not intend on using it often. They are useful, but are usually enormous and suck up gas. Not to mention you'll always be playing catchup in performance with cars. If your only carting yourself around 90% of the time, then it is NOT worth the extra money.
2) I personally love my cobalt. Alot of people complain about GM's warranty but personally i have been treated like a king everytime i take my car in, so it must just be there dealership. Remember, this isn't an accord, it is a performance vehicle. And when you play the performance game, things are gonna break.
3) Whether or not it snows in your area is also a big factor. Considering it was 80 degrees last week where i live, and we havent had real snow in like 15 years, then i couldn't really justify buying a big truck for that reason.
Chevy just needs to bring back the El camino with AWD and put an LS2 in it for less than 30 grand, and all of our problems would be solved!!
