View Full Version : JBP VVT LE5 Cams
mike25 12-16-2006, 09:35 PM OK so with g5mike gettin his problems with his cams worked out it seems they are offering some pretty good gains....
...what i want to know is will these cams handle boost or not?....i look to go boosted and if they are a waste of money im not going to mess with them....also whats the price on these?...$1400?
Dragonsfire12345 12-16-2006, 09:54 PM the cams are $615 minus 75 bucks when you send them your stock ones back
mike25 12-16-2006, 10:00 PM ok sounds like a good price....now i just have to figure out wether or not these things wil handle boost or not.....i dont see why they wouldnt seeing they didnt require special tuning to run prop....so it should work just like the reg. cams would as far as boost tuning goes....right?
victory_red_SS 12-16-2006, 10:08 PM Phone JBP on Monday and ask.;)
Brandon97Z 12-16-2006, 10:21 PM Well the cams may work with boost but you will get better gains with a different grind specific for a boosted application. Not an expert but i'm sure boosted cams allow more airflow uptop not sure how that coralates into the grind but i'm sure JBP could tell ya.
Sunburst girl 12-16-2006, 10:31 PM as far as boosted applications.....for boost you want to get a cam grind with minimun overlap (intake and exhaust valves open at the same time). Excessive overlap will cause the boost to bleed off, or not build/hold well.

ABSOLUTELY! Great to have another cam theorist on the board!
Overlap is there in a naturally aspirated engine to allow the exiting exhaust charge to create a vacuum in the cylinder and help "suck" the incoming intake charge into the combustion chamber. With forced induction, the charge is being forced into the chamber by the air pump (supercharger or turbocharger), and some will be forced out with the exiting exhaust while both valves are open (as Sunburst girl pointed out). So what's good for natural aspiration isn't necessarily good for a forced-induction engine.
It's interesting that early emissions cars (before digital engine management) responded well to supercharging since the early emissions cams had little or no overlap to pass emissions.
g5mike 12-17-2006, 08:55 AM I call Monday guys and book a dyno, now with all the problems I had, I wont be able to afford a tune till Feb., so the gains on the dyno will have to be just untuned gains

how much is the difference to get it tuned and dyno verus just having it dyno'd?
victory_red_SS 12-17-2006, 02:12 PM Mike I think it's $150.\hr to tune it including the dyno, compared to 3 pulls for $100.
IonNinja 12-17-2006, 05:27 PM if u can't dyno tune it right now then why even dyno at all? the #'s are more than likely going to be lower than they can be all you'll just end up on the dyno again thus paying twice so why not just wait and have it done right, one time?

well since the car is running so well Im thinking that a tune numbers might not be all that different from untuned, plus I just want to get a number on gains for you guys cause you all have been patient and supportive through all the BS I have been through. with the hp credits and dyno tune it would be 550 -650 bucks I cant afford that till then where as just 3 pulls is 100bucks
REDFOCZ 12-17-2006, 08:18 PM 3 pulls for $100 bucks I hope that is with a wideband to;)
DTM2188 12-17-2006, 08:27 PM It seems like there is a lot of interest in the JBP cams from the guys who don't have the SS/SC model, I wish there were more of us SC guys interested for the group buy that is taking place now.

As with many group buys, there seems to be lots of interest until it's time to lay down the money:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

 Very true. This GB, though, isn't even getting that initial interest.

At least you know why I am not all over the 2.0 GB :)

Yea...I guess you have a good enough reason  .

I think there might be more interest from the 2.4 guys, cause there are alot of guys wanting to do a NA build, and the 2.4 seems to take to the cams without a tune, meaning the 2.4 buyer is saving money

Yea, I see what you mean, just wish it wasn't true . Best of luck with your new cams though and I'll be looking to see what type of numbers you put down.
mike25 12-19-2006, 09:17 AM well if these cams take to boost without any problems( basically take to boost like they were stock) and we still see gains even with boost ....then these might be as good an option if there are no future plans by jbp to produce boost cams....am i right?
celicacobalt 12-19-2006, 10:43 AM boost cams will certainly come when we get boost which is taking long enough
