heres my e-mail to garrett:

i just saw it listed on your site. its for the 2.2
liter cobalt but i have the 2.4 liter cobalt. you
probably know this already but its the same engine
with differnet internals and a different computer.
same exact layout in the engine bay as well. the kit
would fit for sure but i had some questions. i would
like to buy the kit minus the boost gauge since i
already have one and also i wouldnt send you my ecu
since its not the same as the 2.2 but hp tuners does
have tuning for my 2.4 ss so i can use that for
tuning. how much would the kit be minus those 2 thing
but with everythign else and do you think it would
work? when can i buy it?

heres what garrett said:

Thank you for your interest in the Garrett Cobalt Turbo Kit! There
have
been a few questions arise about the fitment of our 2.2L kit to the
2.4L
engine. Garrett engineers did not work with the 2.4L in the design on
the kit, so we do not have any testing done with it. There have been
several assurances from people like yourself that it will fit, but we
have not tried it as 2.4L Ecotec Cobalts are not easy to come by in
Southern California.

From your request for the kit parts, it sounds like you would do well
to
look into the GT Tuner kit. It has everything that the full Alpha kit
has except the boost gauge, electronics and fuel injectors. Two of
those you don't want anyway and you can pick up larger fuel injectors
at
several outlets. The MSRP on the GT Tuner kit is $3199.99 and is
available at any Garrett Performance Distributor or Garrett Retail
Distributor.

I have attached an image of the GT Tuner kit so that you can see all of
the components.

Have a great week!

Regards,

Garrett Gearhead

Are the injector harness's the same for the 2.0 and 2.4?? If they are you could get a set of 42.5's or 60's and they should do just fine.

its all a matter of preference... on another note, im not sure if this kit includes a downpipe or if i have to buy that on top of everything.

ok im home from work now but yeah a downpipe is included i saw on the website but does anyone know if all the ecotec motors have the same header flange cuz i could see that being a problem if not.

im pretty damn sure it does. I have yet to dig apart my fiance's car (she has a 2.2L Auto) and I have a 2.4L Auto.

How are you guys planning on tuning these for a 2 bar map?

i'll figure that out when the time comes.

This is what i've been reading up on the past week or so. After looking on hptuners.com, a few have said you have to take your values in certain tables and double them. here's the thread on faking 2-3 bar maps http://www.4cyltuner.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=20

also in this thread on post #9 a moderator posted a spreadsheet that should help but i don't have exel on this computer so i can't open it. http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5573

I might try and get ahold of Vector and see what they say although i don't think they use hptuners i'm sure they could help.

The tune couldn't be faked into a 2 bar. The 2.4 has no conventional VE table, more like 30 total that are plotted from "zones" based on preset MAP and RPM conditions. The actual fueling value is derived from engine rpm, airflow, intake and exhaust cam angles.

This link (http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8490&highlight=e67) explains in more detail in whats involved as far as changing VE values.

Imo, changing values and then logging error would be quite difficult if not completely impractible in HPTuners the way its currently configured. Now actually wiping all preset values in the equation in the link above, and having to start over with different MAP boundaries for each VE zone would be a challenge I would love to see overcome, but so far I don't know of anyone that has been successful.

to avoid all that mess cant we just do speed density tuning??

Hes saying u cant do SD tuning because of the complexity of your MAP table...cars that SD tune have a 3 dimensional map table...2.4 cars have a 5 dimensional map table...and HPtuners can only log 3d stuff. Not to mention part of the map equation factors cam angle and there is no input or output for that in hptuners

so are you guys saying i currently have no way to tune for a turbo kit?

Its not impossible, just impractical if that makes any sense. I would definetly contact Westers or someone who tunes using software other than HPT and see if they have an easier solution. In the meantime I'm still trying to find an easy way to do this myself, mainly to help Pppaazz1101 turbo his car.

I'm only a hobbyist when it comes to this stuff, but my recommendation is to contact someone who does this for a living and see if there is an easier way to tune before investing money into parts.

Speed density uses MAP and engine RPM to calculate fueling, which is what I was refering to.

ahh..gotcha...

SO if you were to turbo a 2.4 is complete and reliable tuning possible?? if so...how? and what methods.

Use a piggy-back. Im not sure if the stock PCM would try to adjust back after installation and tuning. As far as I know only Toyotas do that but they still offer the Emange for the Greddy turbo kit and it works...

You might wanna give one of those a try, they work better than people think.
