GM Cross Drilled and Slotted Rotors

If there's already a thread answering this question please direct me to it.

Will the stock pads on the SS/SC 'groove' the GM Cross Drilled and Slotted Rotors like they do the stock rotors? If so I will probably go with the EBC Green. My stock rotors had to be turned at 11K miles, and already look bad again with just 800 miles on them turned. Is this normal? *I know others have this problem too*

Thanks for the feedback guys. Anybody out there with the GM cross drilled and slotted rotors with the GM pads and say over 5K miles or as many as 10K miles on them without groves?

Mine aren't showing any wear yet. Of course they're still in the boxes in the trunk...

I highly recommend CrateEngineDepot. I have a set of the drilled and slotted rotors and new pads in my trunk from them - great service and fair prices!

If it stops blizzarding here in Denver I might have a chance to get these suckers installed! Hopefully before the next storm, due in 2 days.

I've had them on for well over 5k miles now and there isn't any grooving but I think the pads are almost shot

I was looking at these too, but I have decided to go with Uneek's rotors and pads instead...I think they look and will probably perform better.

Yes, I know they will fit and work with the rotors but will they get 'grooved' like the stock rotors have the tendency to do?

Thanks! Now did your original rotors 'groove' too or did you put on the new rotors just to upgrade?

Yes, my original rotors grooved pretty badly. I took it in at 3k miles with the problem and they just resurfaced them. I took it back in with the same problem less than 3k miles later and they wouldn't do anything for me, so I took it to a different dealership and they replaced them under warranty for free

Yeah, I'm pretty dissapointed about the stock rotors not being up to handling the pads we have.

Hopefully the new rotors I buy will be the last for around 100K or so miles.

Nice pics man!

So the stock pads don't eat the upgraded GM rotors like they do the OEM ones? I'm only asking because I want to get the rest of the life out of my stock pads, plus I like the feel of them. Or do we all feel like the EBC green stuff pads are better than stock SS/SC pads from GM?

Some grooving is normal. The real problem with SS brakes is they warp and cause a bad pulsing in the brake pedal, reducing braking efficiency. This has proven to be common to a lot of us. GM aparently will turn the rotors, which leads to even quicker warping. Then they will replace them with stock rotors, which will do the same thing. The GMPP rotors are supposed to stop this issue, since they are less susceptable to extremes in heat cycling (it's not maximum temp that causes the warping, but cycling between hot and cool according to testing at Le Mans in the '60's - interesting story about how this was discovered, but probably off topic for here).

only on the front as far as I know. I should have looked. was looking at balts with my girl, she wants one. according to chevys website the backs are still drums on non-ss vehicles.

At least the front would look sweet I suppose you can do a conversion on the back too.
