In an effort to keep my intake clean as a whistle, I installed an Ebay Catch Can for a whopping $25.00. I used one on my Subaru and it worked like a charm. I figure with track days and autocrossing coming up the oil loads from side to side may create some blow by and hence this catch can will keep thing spick and span and keep the IM clean from any sludge. Excuse the pics its a camera phone!

looks good, how do you know if its filling up though? and is being mounted sideways gonna be a problem for it?

the little straw on the side usually shows some seapage. Sideways doesn't matter. It been my experience that it probably won't even get a slight sludge in it until 5-10,000 miles on an NA engine. But that little bit addes up on the intake manifold and valves. Especially if its running on track days.

Even though I don't plan on doing any agressive turning I've considered installing one just to insure the intake stays clean -- but I'm not sure it's necessary. In the time that you've had it installed have you had any residual oil captured in the catch can yet?

Thanks!

No. Why would it? It keeps the intake clean instead of recirculating the crankcase gases into your throttle body and intake manifold it catches any oil residue in the can insteed of your intake mani. So yeah over time it may increase performance because you don't have sludge build up on the TB/Intake manifold.

No. But I plan on doing track days. If you've ever done one of these or a few you can imagine 25-30 minutes at wide open throttle will burn oil and this will help me keep the intake track clean.

You mounted the can incorrectly. In order to monitor the oil, it must be vertical.

I installed a catch can on my SS a while ago, definitely looks cool in the engine bay.

I just bought a small filter from Advanced Auto Parts and did the same thing pretty much, but that does look pretty cool

I mounted it the same way in most of my cars. Its fine like this the side nozzels are higher than the straw so it works great plus the old airbox mounting points lend themselves to this set up easily. Worked like a charm on my other cars too...:twothumbs

Oh yeah, it definitely is still functional, I've just never seen people mount the can that way.

Like the spelling on that listing. Inluded and fiting. Nice...
