Convertible version of the Chevrolet Camaro debuts. Production version will roll out in 2010.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- General Motors released photos of a convertible Chevrolet Camaro concept vehicle Thursday. The car will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show on Sunday.
After revealing the hardtop version at the Detroit show last year, GM announced it would produce a new Camaro in 2009. A convertible version will go on sale in 2010.
History is repeating itself with that planned reintroduction.

The Camaro was first unveiled in 1966 in response to Ford's 1964 introduction of the Mustang. Its return was, once again, inspired by the success of the Mustang. This time it was the retro-styled 2005 model-year redesign that reignited passion for the pony car.
Production of the Camaro, and its close relative, the Pontiac Firebird, ended in 2002
"If this Camaro convertible doesn't make your heart beat faster, you should either see your optometrist or your cardiologist, because you have a problem," said Ed Peper, general manager of GM's Chevrolet division, in an announcement accompanying the photos.
The concept is painted in "Hugger Orange" pearl tricoat, an update of a color originally offered in 1969.
The Camaro convertible concept car is powered by a 6.0-liter V-8 engine and has a manual transmission

Well I'm sure the SS will have an aggressive factory tune over the Z28 but in the past GM never really did that before so I dunno.. I'm sure stock for stock both will be about the same with the SS having more of an edge (tune dependent). It's the same damn car with minor detailings I am sure. Chevy would want the SS to be advertised faster for sure.

I just hope they don't start with this Camaro RS crap again. The idea is to give only real performance orientated cars the SS badge. But then again almost every car in the line up has a SS badge exept a Aveo, Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche & HHR (im sure the HHR will change shortly).

1) In the 4th gens, the SS was technically the "top dog" despite it really just being a "tuned" Z28 with a hood/suspension. GM wants to get as far away from the 4th gens as possible. So its unlikely they will copy that formula.
2) The new Camaro's are 1st gen inspired, and back then neither one was top dog. Both had there strengths and weaknesses and options. You could have a Z28 that would smoke the dogpoo out of an SS, and vice versa, straight frrom the factory. It all depended on what type of race it was.
3) The Camaro has always been Corvettes little brother, so whose to say that Z28 couldn't be the Z06 for Camaros?
4) With the recent accusation of the SS badging being watered down, its also likely that the Camaro could not have an SS model altogether!
It doesn't really matter to me, cause I'm gonna buy the most affordable V8 model regardless of badging. But if i had to guess this is how it would be;
Camaro- 3.9L V6 (300hp)
Camaro SS- 6.2L V8 (420hp)
Camaro Z28- S/C 6.2L (550hp)
Ya its wicked sad what happened to him but i guess they found the suv that the shots came from. It also sucks they didnt make the playoffs, but i think next year they'll be a big power in the afc.
the only person who could answer these questions and we would know it was true is scott settlemire or commonly know on the fbody boards as the fbodfather or something like that. i honestly feel it should be like the old days Z28 top model! one of my fav. sayings is "any car can be an SS, but only a camaro can be a Z28" ill be buying a new camaro in 2010 (depending on if i have a house yet or not, no house no camaro) convertable
anything else is just unacceptable! and no i wont be selling either of my current fbodies

Also, 4th gen SS's are infamous for having a weight gain that is not offset by enough additional horsepower. Many people beleive the Z28 was the top performer despite the SS being more expensive.
