GM Employee Discount - Possible Extension to September

Not sure if this is a re-post (sure hope not) but it looks like GM may be further extending their employee discount, I would assume since Ford and Chrysler have now introduced the same thing and GM wants to remain competitive. The only link I could find so far about this is on CNN ( sorry )

The employee discount is officially over here in the US. I went to my dealer today to drop off a survey and get my free tank of gas . Employee pricing is gone, but in its place GM is cutting the sticker prices on a bunch of vehicles...at least that's what my salesman told me.

Maybe they're cutting it and then bringing it back (even though that makes NO sense whatsoever).

Anyone else see whether GM pricing is still going on at your dealers or not????

It really would make sense for them to continue with the promotion until the other manufactures end theirs. Or, maybe we could get lucky and all new cars will perminantly be lowered in price by this much. Would be a nice change from the continual increasing is car prices.

That's what I had heard they were planning, was a permanent cut of 2006 sticker prices in place of the employee discount.

GM has now launched the "Total Value Promise"

heres a quote

For 2006, we've lowered prices, added features or redesigned over 50 GM models.

So you get more without paying more on the cars and trucks you really want.

It's not a promotion. It's a promise.
The sad thing is they only lowered the Cobalt Supercharged SS Coupe 5 bucks....

2005 MSRP - $21,995.00
2006 MSRP - $21,990.00

I think they should make it starting at $19,999.00.... then the dealers wouldnt have to really bargain down with people becuase thats a good deal... In any retail enviroment it is good to have solid good prices... bargaining gives the wrong image... Didnt Dodge first start the SRT4 at under 20k... I think this would be a good move, wouldnt it be the fastest coupe under 20k?

I've read a few articles about this, and now GM's website has confirmed it -- it's extended (at least) until September.

Weird! My dealership has taken down all of their signage for it and the salesman said no, it's over. Maybe they've cleared out their 05 inventory, at least the qualifying models. GM's website does say September 6th though.

Maybe they're not participating in it anymore. Or perhaps they were caught by surprise, considering the timing of the extension.

It could be. I don't think they have many eligible '05s left in inventory though, so that could be one reason why they're not participating anymore. They said they had a lot of people come in confused because they ordered an '06 and it wasn't at the "employee" price.

By the article it sounds like GM hasn't officially announced it yet so it's possible it is coming and the dealership is just jumping the gun. I find it strange that they wouldn't make the announcement as soon as it's over though instead of confusing customers by skipping a few days and re-initiating it.
