GM Protection Plan??
GM Protection Plan??
Has anyone here signed up for the GM Protection and mechanical repair plan. I have been reading a lot about it, but they don't give quotes are specific information about what it covers. Just trying to guage whether or not it is worth investigating any further.
well i will tell you this much about the plan...ASK YOUR DEALER WHAT IT COVERS! I cant stress this enough. Reason being i worked at the dealership and 9 times out of 10, it didnt cover **** people were coming in for. From what i remember, it doesnt cover window motors or assemblies. If either your window motor or switch go, your paying for it.
same with the sunroof. why i dont know. i was also told the clutch if replaced is only warrentied for 1 yr 12 k miles if replaced.
wont cover the AC either. in some circumstances ive seen them not cover engine and tranny repairs. Among the other items which the GM warrenty doesnt cover in general- brake pads, rotors (unless they good will you a pair if they are really bad with low milage), tires, battery. but these usually arent covered to begin with because they are wear items. im sure there are a lot im missing. and i worked for a shady ass dealership so i might even be wrong. but when i called claims in to GMPP there were a bunch of denials that would come through for these issues.
but def. read the manual they send for the extended warrenty because you dont want to be caught in a situation where ur arguing with a service writer who cant do anything about your car and the warrenty.

Part of what I am wrestling with is that I manage a collision center and am in real well with my Chevy dealer. I spend about $60,000 a year in parts with them so they treat me well and always give me parts for my car at cost. I even got my car at cost!! SO I am just trying to debate if it is worth me signing up or if I should just continue on without knowing the good bonds I have over there. They won't stiff me on a warranty job and risk losing 60k a year in business.

I bought the extended warranty and when they sent me the information on what was covered and what was not, I was amazed at just how much is left out of a bumper to bumper warranty. I wouldn't buy one again.
yeah.........my dealer said it's worth it though cause it covers my SC wheras they wouldnt cover that with reg warranty.........it was cheap enough so i figured why not. It covers the important stuff but most importantly covers "lateral" damage, so if my wheel snaps off they will cover all the repairs that the failure caused.
