Snow 1 Pirelli Pzero 0

Ok, so I officially hate snow. This is the first buildup of snow in my area (SE Michigan) and driving was interesting (but I have had a lowered cavalier on 18s so its nothing new). What IS new is my car deciding to slid down a 5 degree incline with the ebrake pulled all the way and the car in Reverse.

My gf came home tonight to my car in the middle of the drive at our compex because apparently it slid...and just to be sure, I put ot back and got out and as soon as I shut the door, it started sliding again.....I had to park an extra 100 feet away on a flat plane just to be sure. Even worse, is I have a sub box w/ 2 12" subs,. and amp, and a tool box in back to weigh it down!

That sucks man. Does your e-brake need adjusting? Does it seem stiff? So far, only .10" of snow here . Winter is finally starting to get here though, temperatures are back to where they should be, 35 degrees, and not where they were, 60 degrees, a couple weeks ago.

E-brake is not gonna be helpful on a hill with snow and ice... it will just slide with the tires locked

No, its fine. Hell the car doesnt even have 5000 miles on it. I was just sitting on ice and between the lack of traction from the tired and the light weight it was just akward. What gets me is that I used to park my cavalier on a driveway with a steeper incline back when I had 18" Kuhmo's and it NEVER slid when parked.

Yeah the Pzero's dont get very good traction in cold icy and snowy weather.

I just called into work today, which is 32 miles away in Lexington, KY and I live in Richmond, KY because we just got some serious snow cover for the first time this winter... and honestly it's been a helluva lot worse as far as snow goes here, but I've never been in a car that has this much trouble in the snow as my new SS SC does. My 99 Cavalier Z24 lowered on Eibachs with 17" Centerlines and BFGoodrich GForce Sport summer tires had NO problem in snow... but the SS SC is straight up suicide!

I got out of the driveway, and then going LESS THAN WALKING SPEED, I put her in Neutral and BARELY touch the brake to stop, then ABS starts going NUTS and the car doesn't stop for another 20-25 feet... just kept on going sliding at ridiculously low speed... At that point I decided I didnt want to die, parked the car right where it was and walked back into the house.

That's funny...I too had a 99 Z24 lowed on eibacks...and GR2's. I had 18" Enkei's and Kuhmos (the cheap ones)....and yet that did better than my SS on Pzeros. Although for what its worth, I will never forget the day I spun out my Z24 when I had the OE RSA's on OE 16s.

I think part of my problem is I was spoiled with my s10 last year. It had 4wd and BFG ATs. I think by next winte I will have some 16" steelies with Blizzaks....assuming I make it that far.

My 99 Z24 was absolutely AWESOME in the snow. Never had a problem, even with 6+ inches.

This car loses it in the rain!

PZeros+any bad weather FTL!!!

Seriously though, I have heard that some good all season tires would help dramatically. PZeros are summer tires, intended for hot dry pavement.

it isn't the ss/sc it's the tires. the pzero's are labeled as summer only tires which means ONLY drive in dry to light rain conditions. You need different tires for different times.

sounds like you need an anti-lock ebrake

Makes me wonder why a dealer in Lansing MI would sell a fwd car with Summer only tires. I know that's stock but still a bad move on GM's part. I'm not even that pleased when its dry out. GM is starting to **** me off with this thing even more because now, I can't get into my trunk...my lock is frozen and the auto popper is a no-go. Good thing I put my yellow-top in when it was warm

i hear you, Yes..my tires are 100% baby butt smooth...

but when it snows..i refuse to drive my car...

barely tap the gas, i spin....when i hit the brakes going 5mph...it takes 30min to stop with ABS going crazy...

Pulling out onto a street thats salt/slushed over....

the car wont go faster than 20mph without getting "Traction Loss" every second or so...

If i turn traction control off...i spin/slide off to a side...

So pfft.

Luckily its just been cold as hell here (-20* windchill, -5*) and no snow.

running DUNLOP WINTER SPORT D3's

it's gotten frigid up here recently.... -20 w/ wind chills and my SC runs through snow like a freakin tank!!! I bought 17" DUNLOP WINTER SPORT D3's (V rated snows) and it was worth every penny.
I take the interstate every morning at 5am and it's cold out.... I see other peeps running 80 mph on the interstate with out snows.... I fear what will happen to them in an emergency situation at 80mph w/ tires that must be hard like rocks!!! I am able to corner above highway speeds w/ the LOPS w/ confidence!

my point is that the SC is extremely competent in snow and sub-zero weather with the correct tires!!!!
