View Full Version : Locking Gas cap Matty 01-20-2007, 03:03 AM If any of you are looking for this for the Cobalt, Lordco has it. Stant, part #10511. Got it for $25 w/taxes. No CEL as of yet...I just put it on yesterday. :ca: Red2.4SS/SC 01-20-2007, 03:45 AM if it came in yellow packeging ive had it for 8,000 miles no cel Red06LS 01-20-2007, 03:51 AM So its keyed? Hummm i think GM was retarted for being soo cheap on the gas cap to begin with, how hard would it have been to have it switched from inside like MOST other new cars. Matty 01-20-2007, 03:54 AM if it came in yellow packeging ive had it for 8,000 miles no cel Yellow and white. And I wish the collar that the stock one had fit this one. I am gonna have to rig something up so I can use the little "hook" on the fuel door so I don't leave the cap at the gas station. So its keyed? Hummm i think GM was retarted for being soo cheap on the gas cap to begin with, how hard would it have been to have it switched from inside like MOST other new cars. A $25K car with no inside fuel door and no locking cap... it was one of the only things I found wrong...oh ya no locking wheel nuts as well. patathSS 01-20-2007, 03:59 AM I think GM is going away from the locking fuel doors. The Cadillacs no longer have them and I can't think of any vehicle I sold (besides the Vibe aka Matrix) that had a locking fuel door. I sold GMC, Pontiac, Buick, and Cadillac. What is the reasoning for that? Cost? User feedback? patathSS 01-20-2007, 04:06 AM From what I was told, they got tired of replacing fuel doors for ppl that had theirs ripped open by vandals/potential gas thiefs. I don't know if it is true or ust bullshit the service dpt said. Now with the non siphoning gas tank design, it is said that no one can siphon gas out. But I worry more about someone putting something in my tank. Red2.4SS/SC 01-20-2007, 04:11 AM another thing that they might not have liked was when a customer was really low on gas and they go to fill up and the it not opening bc the buttons messed up that would be shittie and that happened to my moms 02 civic ex thats the ONLY problem its ever had EVER Matty 01-20-2007, 04:15 AM From what I was told, they got tired of replacing fuel doors for ppl that had theirs ripped open by vandals/potential gas thiefs. I don't know if it is true or ust bullshit the service dpt said. Now with the non siphoning gas tank design, it is said that no one can siphon gas out. But I worry more about someone putting something in my tank. I think about both the sticking something in and taking something out. With gas being the price it is and the idiots that cruise the neighborhoods, having a lock on the tank seems like a good idea. When you say non-siphoning design, what is the difference from the previous design? I had a neighbor with a friends work trunk in his driveway, and a weirdo tried to siphon gas out. Not sure of the year or make (can't remember) I think a late 90's either GMC or Ford. He bolted when we came out. another thing that they might not have liked was when a customer was really low on gas and they go to fill up and the it not opening bc the buttons messed up that would be shittie and that happened to my moms 02 civic ex thats the ONLY problem its ever had EVER There is an emergency release in the trunk area if the button doesn't work. g5mike 01-20-2007, 04:25 AM Shit! and I was just thinking of going for a cruise to piss in mattys tank patathSS 01-20-2007, 04:26 AM I don't know when but GM added an anti siphon screen into the filler neck I believe. Once again, this is what I heard, I was not a tech, I just sold cars. The filter would not allow you to put a hose down the neck to siphon gas out. Matty 01-20-2007, 04:29 AM Shit! and I was just thinking of going for a cruise to piss in mattys tank Even if it wasn't locked, your weenie inside the gas pipe would be like a hockey stick in a garbage can. I don't know when but GM added an anti siphon screen into the filler neck I believe. Once again, this is what I heard, I was not a tech, I just sold cars. The filter would not allow you to put a hose down the neck to siphon gas out. Ahhh. That would stop a hose from going down. |
