Powder Coat Stock Rims or Not?

I need some input here everyone. I'm thinking about powder coating my stock rims, but I'm unsure of which route to go or if I even should. Let me know what you think and please vote.

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3

Thats reassuring, I got some time to think about it still since I got the other stuff that has to get done, but I want to make a decision on it so that I know what I'm doing.

I prefer them stock.
Like the look.

But if you want to change up your rims just buy a set of 18's and use your stock tires to save money.

I like the shiny look to the rims stock. But the black rims do not look bad on a red car though...

I powder coated my stock 18's a gunmetal grey. I think they turned out great. They're a little darker than the stock which is what I was looking for.
Here are a few pics for you.

^^^That also looks good, but I'm either gonna do black or stock, black to stay with the red/black "theme". Thanks for the input so far, still undecided though. Keep the input coming.

I know exactly what you mean. I couldn't decide either. In fact, I posted a thread exactly like this. I wanted to go black to stick with the red and black theme also. I thought the gunmetal kind of stuck out on the red and black. But on my thread, most of the people told me to go gunmetal. I'm happy with the way they turned out because they are a lot darker than the stock. What was also interesting is that the guy that did them pointed out that the stock wheels are more of a bronze/grey. You don't notice the bronze until you look at it just right. Good luck. I know that's a tough decision...I think I even lost sleep over that one

Thanks man. Do you happen to know what type of paint was used on your rims? Have you had any issues with the paint chipping or flaking? Just curious.

Now you guys can't be going around thinking that everyone on this site is a man...
Mine were powder coated. They turned out great...no chips or flaking. Before I had them powder coated the factory paint was chipping. Of course before the powder coat, they sand blasted all of that off. Let me know if you have anymore questions. I think I spent around $300 with powder coating, sand blasting, dismount, remount and balance. I think it was well worth it.

So sorry, I didn't realize it, my bad. And now looking at your sig as well, I can put it all together, my bad again. $300 seems like an awfully good deal to me as well. Is it absolutely necessary to sandblast off the factory coating? Not that that is a problem, since I can do it myself, but is it necessary to do?

Lol no problem. I agree $300 wasn't that bad at all. If you are powder coating...yes you need to sand blast the paint off. I would think if you are just painting them that some good, heavy wet sanding might do the trick.

Do option 2 and paint the inside of the rims vic red to match ya car, some one just did that with sun burst orange and it looked good but different.

Thanks for all the info! How long were you without your wheels?

I thought about that, but I think it might be too much red for me.

[QUOTE=DTM2188;781995]Thanks for all the info! How long were you without your wheels?

It took about five days to get everything done. But there was a day delay because of the snow. So I'm guessing between 3 and 4 days. If they get right on it, the powder coat and sand blast can be done in about a day and a half.

You wouldn't go all black? Or any black, even with the gunmetal two-tone idea?

Hmmmm....basically the opposite of Option 2. Not a bad idea either, too many options, now I need another photoshop . That does look good though, the only thing I'm really hesitant about is the fact that I'm not a big fan off all the black up against the black tires, thats why I'm not really leaning towards all black rims and why I like my Option 2, but that pic of yours is somthing to consider.

I pretty much don't like black rims in general. Some look alright. I love gunmetal though. Two-tone might look decent.

Thanks for the input man. I'm not big on all black myself, but I'm thinking I might go with the two-tone idea...maybe.
