What offset will best fit 18" rims on my Cobalt?

I'm looking at rims to order very soon, and would like to know the best offset to look for on 18"s to make sure they don't rub my suspension. It's between 42 and 45, those are the two offsets I have to choose from. Which one would be the better fit?

And also, what size tire should I purchase?

Offset depends on the width of the rim, not the diameter. Overall diameter of wheel and tire should not change very much if you are properly sizing your wheel/tire combo.

I have a +35 offset on an 8" wide wheel.

So I should be able to fit 18"s on my Balt no problem?

not if your 18's are 10" wide! How wide is the wheel your looking at putting on your car.

18X8 +35 fit perfectly on my balt and its lowered with Eibach Pro-kit springs.

I hope its +45 not -45. - 45 would give you like 5.5" of lip. I would go lower on a 7.5 wide wheel..It will bring the outside of the wheel closer to the edge of the fender. +40 would be the best.
